San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings is certainly benefiting from Brock Purdy's return to the lineup following the quarterback's lengthy recovery from a turf toe injury.
Since Purdy reclaimed his starting role, Jennings has been on a scoring tear, finding the end zone four times over the last three games, including two touchdowns in Sunday's win over the Tennessee Titans.
Jennings joined Bay Area radio station KNBR on Wednesday and explained what having a fully healthy Purdy back under center has meant for the 49ers as they build momentum heading into the postseason.
"It just means a lot, man," Jennings said. "To have him back 100% healthy, obviously, just a game breaker. And to have Brock, the confidence that he brings to our team, as well as the leadership—the huddle is just a team full of guys, ready to work, and Brock's the man leading the way. Everybody's just waiting to hear to play call and execute for Brock because we know he's going to do the same."
Purdy delivered what may have been his most complete performance of the season against the Titans. Beyond the stat line, the quarterback looked noticeably more mobile and decisive than he had at any point since returning from injury. Purdy rushed for 44 yards on seven carries, highlighted by a big-time 26-yard scramble, making it clear that the turf toe is no longer a concern.
While Purdy often seems more reserved at the podium when addressing the media, his on-field demeanor tells a different story. The 49ers quarterback plays with a quiet swagger that fires up his teammates.
"You get the competitive side of Brock each and every week, especially on Sundays," Jennings said. "That's where Brock is at his best, under the lights. Whatever Brock brings to the table, we try to match it. He's just that type of player.
"He just challenges everybody to be better at their position. So, just great having him back."
That renewed confidence in Purdy could prove pivotal down the stretch, as the 49ers look to overcome a season filled with adversity and make a statement in the NFL playoffs.
