Mac Jones helped the San Francisco 49ers secure their fourth win of the season in a thrilling overtime victory against the division rival Los Angeles Rams. But before stepping onto the field at SoFi Stadium, the quarterback endured a shocking experience.
According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, Jones saw a dead body outside the team hotel in Marina del Rey.
"That morning at the team hotel in Marina del Rey, Jones told teammates he was on his balcony when he looked out at the water and saw a floating dead body," Russini wrote. "Someone called the police. As the 49ers loaded buses for the stadium, players watched investigators and even a coroner's van pull into the marina. On Friday afternoon, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said the incident was still under investigation."
Despite the unsettling start to his day, Jones stayed composed. He threw for 342 yards and two touchdowns in the 49ers' 26-23 win over the Rams, improving to 3-0 as San Francisco's starter this season while filling in for the injured Brock Purdy.
Through three starts, Jones has completed 66.7 percent of his passes for 905 yards, six touchdowns, and just one interception. The 49ers signed the veteran quarterback to a two-year deal in March, and the move has already paid dividends with Purdy sidelined by a lingering toe injury.
