Just in time to help offset the partial salary they'll absorb from their trade for Philadelphia Eagles pass rusher Bryce Huff—a post-June 1 move the team has yet to make officially—the San Francisco 49ers are gaining some valuable salary cap relief.
According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, the 49ers will free up $5.6 million in cap space on Monday due to the post-June 1 release designations of defensive linemen Javon Hargrave and Maliek Collins.
Both players were released in March, but by designating them as post-June 1 cuts, the 49ers were able to spread the salary cap impact over multiple years.
Over The Cap now lists the 49ers with just over $50 million in available cap space—a figure that will likely be adjusted following the accounting of these post-June 1 moves.
On Friday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the 49ers were finalizing a trade for Huff, sending a mid-round draft pick to the Eagles in exchange for the edge rusher. Philadelphia is expected to absorb $9.05 million of Huff's fully guaranteed $17 million salary, leaving San Francisco responsible for just under $8 million in 2025.
