49ers held pre-draft meeting with 334-pound defensive tackle 

Justin Melo of The Draft Network added another name to the list of prospects the San Francisco 49ers have virtually met with—Tennessee defensive tackle Elijah Simmons.

Simmons measured in at 6-foot-1 and 334 pounds at the NFL Scouting Combine. He recorded a 5.37-second 40-yard dash, a 32-inch vertical jump, and an 8-foot-10 broad jump.

According to Sports Reference, Simmons tallied 11 tackles (two for a loss) over 13 games during the 2024 season. Across his college career, he amassed 59 tackles (eight for a loss), 0.5 sacks, and three passes defensed.

"I love being physical," Simmons told Melo in an interview. "I like violence in the trenches, man. I love upholding the point of attack and dominating my gap. That's my mission on the field. I have to get on those guards and place pressure on the backfield. That's what being a great player is all about."

The 49ers' interior defensive line depth took a hit with the departures of Javon Hargrave and Maliek Collins this offseason. Simmons could be considered a late-round option or a potential undrafted free agent worth developing.

"I'm going to be a consistent player through and through," Simmons said. "I'm going to come in and showcase explosiveness at the point of attack. I play with a high motor. I'm going to be the same player you watched at Tennessee, just at a higher level. I'm going to give it 1,000%."
