The Ross Tucker Football Podcast recently released an interview with San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner, which appears to have been recorded ahead of Super Bowl LIX. Unfortunately, that means there was no discussion about the team's ongoing offseason roster overhaul. However, the All-Pro linebacker did open up about his personal goals as he looks ahead to the 2025 season, following a disappointing six-win campaign in 2024.
Tucker, a former NFL offensive lineman, noted that Warner is already on a Hall of Fame trajectory. He asked the star defender what areas of his game he's focused on improving as he enters his eighth NFL season.
"I mean, it's cliché, [but] I want to do everything better," Warner said. "I want to rush the pass a little more effectively, add that to my game to make teams even that more afraid of what I can do. But at the end of the day, I'm trying to do whatever I can to help win the game, win games for my team."
Warner has already built an impressive NFL résumé. He's never recorded fewer than 118 tackles in a season and, in 2024, remained one of Pro Football Focus' highest-graded linebackers despite playing much of the year with a fractured ankle.
Last season, Warner racked up 131 tackles (five for a loss), two interceptions, seven passes defensed, one sack, and four forced fumbles, earning his fourth All-Pro and fourth Pro Bowl selections.
Still, Warner believes he has plenty of room to grow. Known for his ability to punch the ball out of ball carriers' arms, he admits that he's most effective using his right hand. He's working to become just as dangerous with his left, using offseason boxing training to improve in that area.
"I can only punch my right side," Warner said. "I've got to get some more strength in this left side, so when I'm coming left to right, that's when you see me coming for the ball. Right to left, I might just go for the tackle. I've got to work on my left."
Looking ahead, Warner had a clear message for fans and opponents alike.
"I promise you, you ain't seen nothing yet," he declared. "I'm just getting started."
