San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch spoke to reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis on Wednesday and was quickly asked about contract negotiations with quarterback Brock Purdy.
Purdy is eligible for his first contract extension after proving to be one of the NFL's best bargains over the past three seasons. The 49ers selected him with the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Lynch confirmed that discussions between the two sides have begun.
"We're talking," Lynch said. "I won't go into the negotiations, like always is our stance. We want Brock to be our quarterback as long as we're here and beyond, and we'll leave it at that."
Purdy is entering his fourth NFL season and is expected to sign a deal to make him one of the league's highest-paid players. His value and where he should rank financially have been the subject of much debate.
Lynch added, "I think the final thing, there's no guarantees that we get something done, but my experience has been, when both sides are motivated, there's ample opportunity to do so, and we've been able to do that."

Before I begin, I need to clarify a few things. First, this is not an evaluation of the success or failure of general manager John Lynch's drafts and signings. Every good GM has hits and misses. Second, this is not some sort of call for a new GM. I believe that, on balance,...
