Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports reports that the Washington Commanders are hiring former San Francisco 49ers special teams coordinator Brian Schneider to fill the same role.

The 49ers parted ways with Schneider after a season filled with special teams miscues that drew significant criticism from fans and analysts. Among the struggles was second-year kicker Jake Moody, whose costly missed field goals became a recurring issue. Schneider had played a key role in the 49ers' decision to draft Moody in the third round, a move that sparked debate.
San Francisco finished the season with a disappointing 6-11 record, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
Schneider, 53, spent three seasons with the 49ers after joining head coach Kyle Shanahan's staff in 2022. Before his time in San Francisco, he served as the Seattle Seahawks' special teams coordinator for 11 seasons (2010-2020) and had a brief stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021.
Schneider's coaching career began at Colorado State (1994-2002), followed by stops at UCLA (2003-2005) and Iowa State (2006). His NFL journey started with the Oakland Raiders (2007-2008), and he later spent one season (2009) as USC's special teams coordinator before joining the Seahawks.
