The San Francisco 49ers have announced that linebacker Dre Greenlaw has been placed on injured reserve. In a corresponding move, the team has added offensive lineman Zack Johnson to the practice squad.
Greenlaw appeared in two games following his recovery from a torn Achilles but sustained a calf injury in Week 16. He is scheduled to become a free agent in March.
The 49ers Communications staff provided the following rundown.
Johnson (6-6, 301) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent on April 29, 2020. Throughout his career, Johnson has spent time on the practice squads with the Packers (2020-21), Arizona Cardinals (2021), Denver Broncos (2022), Baltimore Ravens (2022), Tennessee Titans (2022-23) and Cleveland Browns (2024), and has appeared in one game with the Titans in 2022. He also spent the 2023 season with the United Football League's (UFL) Birmingham Stallions. In 2024, Johnson signed with the Browns on July 29 and was released by the team on August 26.
A 27-year-old native of Apple Valley, MN, Johnson attended North Dakota State University (2015-19), where he appeared in 54 games and earned First-Team All-American (2018).
Greenlaw (6-0, 230) started two games and registered nine tackles in 2024.
