The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 2 contest against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
As head coach Kyle Shanahan indicated before practice, running back Christian McCaffrey was limited as he continues to manage a calf strain and Achilles tendinitis. Shanahan also clarified that the team has not considered placing McCaffrey on injured reserve, which would sideline him for at least four games.
Commenting on McCaffrey's availability for this weekend, NFL insider Ian Rapoport shared on NFL Network, "It feels to me, just taking stock of the situation, talking to people involved, that Christian McCaffrey is a long shot to play this week against the Minnesota Vikings."
Meanwhile, defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos and linebacker Dee Winters remained absent from practice as they recover from injuries sustained in the 49ers' preseason finale on August 23.
Wide receiver Jauan Jennings and guard Aaron Banks, who emerged from Monday night's game with minor injuries, were limited in practice. On Tuesday, Shanahan noted that both players are considered day-to-day.
