The Athletic's Dianna Russini reports that the Washington Commanders are expected to sign San Francisco 49ers defensive end Clelin Ferrell. The move for the unrestricted free agent can become official on Wednesday, at the start of the new league year.

Pro Football Talk reports it's a one-year deal for the defender.
The then-Oakland Raiders drafted Ferrell (6-4, 265) out of Clemson with the No. 4 overall pick in 2019. He registered 28 tackles, six tackles for a loss, 13 quarterback hits, 3.5 sacks, a pass defensed, and a forced fumble while starting every game for the 49ers last season, per Pro Football Reference.
Ferrell missed the playoffs due to a knee injury and was placed on the injured reserve list on January 20.
On Monday, the 49ers agreed to terms on deals with defensive ends Leonard Floyd and Yetur Gross-Matos. Over the weekend, it was reported that the team plans to release Arik Armstead after discussions to lower the defensive lineman's salary fell through.
Ferrell, 26, has recorded 133 tackles, 21 tackles for a loss, 45 quarterback hits, 13.5 sacks, 12 passes defensed, and three forced fumbles in 75 game appearances (47 starts) through his five NFL seasons.
