The road to the Super Bowl will go through Santa Clara, not Philadelphia. That's because the San Francisco 49ers are significantly better than the Eagles, said Andrew Siciliano while filling in as host on the Rich Eisen Show.
"The 49ers are so clearly above and beyond everyone else, it's not even funny," Siciliano said Monday morning after San Francisco demolished the Dallas Cowboys 42-10 Sunday night.
The 49ers and Eagles remain the NFL's last unbeaten teams, and Siciliano acknowledges that the latter have looked solid this season. Nevertheless, after five weeks of NFL action, San Francisco has undeniably set itself apart from the rest of the league.
Sunday night's matchup was supposed to be a clash of NFL heavyweights. Instead, it was a showcase for the 49ers, who steamrolled past their opponent.
"But the Niners are so much better than everyone else," Siciliano declared. "What's the gap between the Eagles and the Niners? Let's ask that. I think it's pretty sizable.
"And what we learned yesterday is the road to the Super Bowl in the NFC—and I'm sorry, Philly fans, I do think you will lose, and I don't know when the Niners will lose next—is going to go through Santa Clara."
Sunday night's game may have made one thing very clear: The road to the Super Bowl will not go through Dallas. The Cowboys have had their playoff aspirations dashed by the 49ers in the last two seasons, and it doesn't look like they are capable of getting over the hump this season.
"If you're a Cowboy fan right now, I'd be demoralized because this was their Super Bowl," Siciliano continued. "I mean, it wasn't. It's Week 5. But the talk coming out of Dallas this week is this is our 'prove it to ourselves and the world' game."
The only thing the Cowboys proved is that there are still many uncertainties surrounding their team.
"The 49ers are the better team, and Mike McCarthy got outcoached, and Dak Prescott got outplayed," Siciliano said. "... It's the same nightmare scenario that you didn't think you would see. Or maybe, if you're a Cowboy fan, deep down inside, you knew you might."
