In the midst of the 2023 season, the San Francisco 49ers took some attention away from their 3-0 start and rewarded head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch with multi-year extensions, tying them to the franchise for the foreseeable future.

With the extension, Shanahan is signed with the 49ers through at least the 2027 season, putting him in line to potentially break a major franchise record.

Currently, legendary coach Bill Walsh holds the franchise record for longest-tenured coach at 10 years, but Shanahan could break that, should he remain with the 49ers throughout the remainder of his newly-signed extension.

Does that hold any sentiment for the current head coach?

"Yeah, hypothetically it'd be very cool," Shanahan said. "Contracts do not mean anything. They mean a lot, but that doesn't mean anything in that aspect but to be even asked the question with someone like that is really cool."

"I feel very fortunate for it and like I said, we did this at the beginning of the year so it was very celebratory with my family and everything. But once the season started you kind of realize you feel the same in every other aspect. Nothing really changes."

Shanahan revealed that he earned his extension prior to the beginning of the season, allowing for some time of celebration with his family, but the 49ers chose to make the announcement this week.

"We did [the extension] before the Pittsburgh game, so I'd already celebrated with my family and stuff like that, which is huge. I feel very grateful. Just being a coach anywhere for a long time, I know what that means and extremely grateful for that to have that opportunity and mainly for my family to be somewhere for so long, which is cool."

"But, doing it before this season even started, I think meant a lot to me. Just shows you the people that we're with, that we believe in each other, despite what could happen whether we were 0-3 or 3-0, we'd still be in the same situation. I really like where we live and really like the people we work with, and they're committed to giving us a chance to go for it every single year and that's all I could ever ask for."

Regardless, it's a remarkable accomplishment for the head coach who was hired by the 49ers in 2017, and has since compiled a 61-49 overall record including three playoff appearances and a Super Bowl opportunity.

Kyle Shanahan, 49ers players critical of Eagles staff member getting chippy with Dre Greenlaw

By Kirk Larrabee
Dec 3

While there were a number of highlights that took place for the 49ers in their 42-19 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, the most memorable moment might have come when things got heated between 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw and Eagles senior advisor to the general manager/chief security officer Dom DiSandro. The incident happened in the third quarter of Sunday's game with the 49ers holding a 21-6 lead. Greenlaw made a physical tackle on wide receiver DeVonta Smith near the Eagles sideline, which resulted in Greenlaw getting a 15-yard penalty. The tackle also prompted Eagles players, coaches and DiSandro to approach Greenlaw in Smith's defense. DiSandro put his hand on Greenlaw and gave him a slight push, after which Greenlaw poked DiSandro in the face. Both Greenlaw

49ers being favored over Eagles 'doesn't make a lot of sense' to Kyle Shanahan

Sitting at 10-1, the Philadelphia Eagles own the NFL's best record. They are set to host the San Francisco 49ers in a highly anticipated NFC Championship Game rematch on Sunday in front of a rowdy Lincoln Financial Field crowd. Despite the Eagles' five-game winning streak, the 8-3 road-team 49ers are currently favored by three points. Oddsmakers might be favoring the 49ers because of how they have won games recently. Bouncing back from a challenging October, the team is now on a three-game winning streak, dominating opponents with an average margin of victory of 20.7 points. In contrast, the Eagles have secured victories with a more modest average margin of 4.8 points over their last four games, including an overtime win against the Buffalo Bills on

The NFL is reviewing the sideline scuffle between San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw and Philadelphia Eagles' head of security, Dom DiSandro. Both individuals were ejected from Sunday's game. During his post-game press conference at Lincoln Financial Field, head coach Kyle Shanahan criticized DiSandro for putting his hands on one of his players. "That's why I tried my hardest not to lose my mind," Shanahan told reporters after the game. "Hopefully, I didn't embarrass myself too bad. I didn't get to see it all from where I'm at, but when I start hearing people explain it to me and stuff and I just can't believe someone not involved in a football game can taunt our players

Is this the most balanced 49ers team under Kyle Shanahan? Any Zach Ertz interest?

By David Bonilla

Head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch have crafted an impressive roster since joining the San Francisco 49ers in 2017. On Sunday, the team strengthened its case as the best in the NFL by dismantling the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles. After a three-game skid in October, the team has been firing on all cylinders, excelling both offensively and defensively. This was evident in the 42-19 rout of the Eagles. During a conference call with reporters on Monday, head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked if this team is the most well-balanced roster he has had during his tenure and whether that influences his aggressiveness in handling play-calling
