The San Francisco 49ers have been one of the league's most physically imposing teams since head coach Kyle Shanahan arrived in 2017, which has only furthered in recent years with the team consistently building around their core to fit the culture.
That has led to sustained success for the 49ers, and not so much for their opponents, at least in a certain way back in 2022.
Last year, the 49ers held an impressive streak; opponents went 0-15 in games the following week after facing the 49ers, which was a testament to the toughness they played with and how it weighed down on their adversaries, not only during the game, but also the week after.
Unfortunately, that streak has come to an end, as the Pittsburgh Steelers were able to defeat the Cleveland Browns in Week 2 after suffering a disappointing 30-7 loss to the 49ers in Week 1, marking the first time in over a year that a team followed up a loss to San Francisco with a win in the next week.
Now, there was one exception last season, as the Kansas City Chiefs did win their next game after facing the 49ers, although they had a bye week in between the two matchups.
Still, it is, nonetheless, an impressive feat to hold, and the 49ers will look to do similar things in 2023 by imposing their physicality on opponents with a desire of wearing them down with Kyle Shanahan's style of football.
