The San Francisco 49ers created about $23.2 million in salary cap space by restructuring the contracts of tight end George Kittle and offensive tackle Trent Williams. The moves came ahead of the team signing defensive end Nick Bosa to a massive five-year, $170 million contract extension.

Spotrac.com detailed how the 49ers restructured the contracts for each player.

For Kittle, San Francisco converted about $10.6 million of his base salary for the upcoming season into a signing bonus, which will be paid immediately. However, the amount will be spread out over the length of the contract plus one new void year in 2026. The move creates about $8.5 million in additional cap space this season.

Below are the yearly cap hits as part of Kittle's deal.

The Niners converted about $18.2 million of Williams' base salary this season into a signing bonus. Again, that is paid out immediately but spread throughout the length of the contract, including, similar to Kittle, a new void year in 2027. The move creates about $14.6 million in cap space this season.

Below are the yearly cap hits as part of Williams' deal.

The moves give the 49ers significant maneuvering room in 2023 while pushing money to future years when the salary cap is expected to be significantly higher.
