The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 1 contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Tight end
George Kittle and safety
Tashaun Gipson returned to practice after missing some time. That's good news for the 49ers, who hope to have the two players on the field for Sunday's game.
Kittle has been dealing with a nagging groin injury, while Gipson has missed time with a back issue. Both players were limited in Wednesday's on-field work.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that wide receiver and punt returner
Ray-Ray McCloud has been cleared to practice. His participation was limited. McCloud suffered a broken wrist during training camp. The team initially expected him to miss about eight weeks. His recovery is trending well and he could even play against the Steelers.
"McCloud has been catching punts on [the] side and expects to play," wrote
Cam Inman of Bay Area News Group.
Rookie kicker
Jake Moody is working his way back from a right quad injury. The 49ers coach is optimistic about his availability on Sunday.
"Just as long as he doesn't have a setback," Shanahan shared before practice. "He's looking good now, and I feel good about him, and I'd be surprised if he's not there. So we'll keep going at the pace we're at. As long as he doesn't have a setback, we should be all right."
Below are Wednesday's practice participation reports for both the 49ers and Steelers, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.

The San Francisco 49ers have been one of the league's most physically imposing teams since head coach Kyle Shanahan arrived in 2017, which has only furthered in recent years with the team consistently building around their core to fit the culture.
That has led to sustained success for the 49ers, and not so much for their opponents, at least in a certain way back in 2022.

Linebackers Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles and Dre Greenlaw emerged from Thursday night's game with low-ankle sprains. Both are day-to-day. The good news is that players have some extra time off before returning to work on Monday, when the 49ers begin preparing for the Arizona Cardinals.
The only other player who was banged up in the Week 3 contest is wide receiver Deebo Samuel. The 49ers initially feared a rib injury, but
