One way or another, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo continues to be connected with the San Francisco 49ers.

Until this weekend, the 49ers were potentially at risk of losing a third-round compensatory selection, as Jimmy Garoppolo's signing with the Las Vegas Raiders could've been voided had he failed a physical.

However, Garoppolo reported to training camp and passed his physical recently, meaning that his three-year, $67.5 million contract will hold up, and he'll suit up for Las Vegas in 2023.

Of course, it was uncertain whether the Raiders would've actually gone the distance of voiding the contract, but there was specific language put into the deal following Garoppolo's failed physical in March that stipulated the potential nullification of the agreement if he failed a physical at this portion of the offseason.

With Garoppolo's situation set, the 49ers will now be awarded a third-round compensatory pick for the loss of right tackle Mike McGlinchey, as the quarterback's loss was canceled out by the signing of defensive tackle Javon Hargrave via the compensatory formula.

Had Garoppolo's deal been nullified, the 49ers would miss out on that compensatory selection as McGlinchey's loss would've canceled out the signing of Hargrave.

Currently, the 49ers are scheduled to hold the maximum four compensatory picks that can be awarded for player departures: a third-rounder for Mike McGlinchey, a fifth-rounder for Samson Ebukam, a fifth-rounder for Charles Omenihu, and a sixth-rounder for Emmanuel Moseley, according to Over The Cap.

In addition, San Francisco is scheduled to receive an extra third-round compensatory selection as the second of three picks earned from the losses of DeMeco Ryans and Ran Carthon last offseason.
