According to NFL Media's Tom Pelissero, the San Francisco 49ers conducted a private workout with UCLA running back Zach Charbonnet. He isn't the only Bruin the 49ers have researched ahead of next week's NFL Draft. The team worked out quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson at UCLA and hosted him on a pre-draft visit. Offensive lineman Atonio Mafi has also visited with the 49ers.
Charbonnet carried the football 195 times for 1,359 yards and 14 rushing touchdowns, adding 37 receptions for 321 yards through 10 game appearances as a senior in 2022, per
Sports Reference, earning first-team All-Pac-12 accolades as the UCLA's leading rusher despite missing three games due to injury. The Bruin ranked fourth in the FBS with 6.97 yards per carry.
Charbonnet accumulated 3,346 rushing yards on 566 attempts and 39 rushing touchdowns, adding 75 receptions for 589 yards through his four collegiate seasons. Two thousand four hundred ninety-six of those yards came after Charbonnet transferred from Michigan to UCLA.

"Upright runner with outstanding body composition and consecutive seasons of impressive production for the Bruins," Lance Zierlein wrote in
the player's NFL.com draft profile. "Charbonnet is a bit of a long-strider with slightly below average foot quickness. He is much more effective when allowed to open up and build downhill momentum. He can slip tackles in the open field but lacks the first-level wiggle to get too cute. He's inconsistent in processing defensive fronts quickly but can be a hammer into and through contact when he has a clear point of entry. Charbonnet is a talented third-down option as both a blocker and pass-catcher. He could be viewed as a Day 2 value with three-down potential."
Charbonnet is from Camarillo, CA. He earned a pre-draft grade of 6.23 from NFL.com, which equates to an "eventual average starter," per the site's 8-point grading scale.
At the NFL Scouting Combine, the 6' 0 3/8" and 214-pound Charbonnet had a 40-time of 4.53 seconds, a vertical jump of 37 inches, a broad jump of 122 inches, and 18 reps in the bench press. His other measurables include an arm length of 32 inches and hands measuring 9 7/8 inches.
Charbonnet had a 7.16-second three-cone drill time and a 20-yard shuttle time of 4.46 seconds at his personal Pro Day,
per NFLDraftBuzz.

49ers continue to monitor Zach Ertz situation, says John Lynch
Zach Ertz is available to any interested NFL team after the Arizona Cardinals waived him last week. Of course, the veteran tight end can be selective in choosing his next NFL destination, reportedly expressing a preference for joining a contender.
The best contender might be the San Francisco 49ers, particularly with tight end Ross Dwelley sidelined for multiple weeks due to a high-ankle sprain. This week, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reported that the 49ers are among the teams "most interested" in Ertz.
General manager John Lynch joined Bay Area radio station KNBR on Friday morning and addressed the 49ers' interest in the Pro Bowl player.

Is this the most balanced 49ers team under Kyle Shanahan? Any Zach Ertz interest?
Head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch have crafted an impressive roster since joining the San Francisco 49ers in 2017. On Sunday, the team strengthened its case as the best in the NFL by dismantling the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles.
After a three-game skid in October, the team has been firing on all cylinders, excelling both offensively and defensively. This was evident in the 42-19 rout of the Eagles.
During a conference call with reporters on Monday, head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked if this team is the most well-balanced roster he has had during his tenure and whether that influences his aggressiveness in handling play-calling
49ers reportedly among teams "most interested" in TE Zach Ertz
Zach Ertz has expressed his desire to join a playoff contender, and it appears that at least one is showing interest—the San Francisco 49ers. Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports that the Niners are among the "most interested" in the three-time Pro Bowl player.
The move makes sense. The 49ers have long searched for a tight end to complement George Kittle, their All-Pro playmaker. Ertz could prove to be an ideal fit for that role. He played college football at Stanford and grew up in the region.
Longtime backup Ross Dwelley suffered a high-ankle sprain during Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles and will miss multiple
49ers praise Ji'Ayir Brown's journey from draft to starting lineup
The San Francisco 49ers are still exploring their safety options due to injuries to Talanoa Hufanga and George Odum. Tayler Hawkins is on the practice squad, and the team has added veteran Erik Harris. General manager John Lynch admits that there aren't many outside options at this point in the season.
The silver lining is the depth added through the draft, with Ji'Ayir Brown selected from Penn State in the third round. Brown made a notable debut against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, stepping in for Hufanga, and made his first start against the Seattle Seahawks last week.
The rookie's impressive performance has not gone unnoticed, earning a 76.8 overall Pro Football Focus grade against the Buccaneers and a 73.9 grade on Thanksgiving night. The 49ers are optimistic
