The San Francisco 49ers have announced the following roster moves ahead of the team's Week 18 game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Waived from the active roster:
DT Akeem Spence
Waived from the practice squad:
QB Jacob Eason
Spence (6-1, 307) appeared in seven games this season, where he registered 10 tackles. Eason (6-6, 230) initially signed to the practice squad on November 15, 2022.
Spence's roster spot might be filled by running back Elijah Mitchell, who could be activated from the injured reserve list before this weekend's game. The 49ers expect Mitchell to return to practice this week. He suffered his second MCL sprain of the season on November 27, 2022.
Eason's departure leaves San Francisco with Brock Purdy and Josh Johnson as its only two healthy quarterbacks.
The 49ers (12-4) and Cardinals (4-12) will play at Levi's Stadium on Sunday, January 8. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:25 p.m. PT.
