Brock Purdy has earned his first NFL award. The San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback has been named the Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Week after his third consecutive nomination. Purdy earned the award for his performance during the team's 37-20 Week 16 victory over the Washington Commanders.
Purdy completed 15 of 22 pass attempts for 234 yards and two touchdowns in his third career NFL start, helping the 49ers win their eighth consecutive game.
The other award nominees were Washington Commanders wide receiver Jahan Dotson, Buffalo Bills running back James Cook, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens, New England Patriots cornerback Marcus Jones, and Los Angeles Rams cornerback Cobie Durant.
Purdy played college football at Iowa State, and the 49ers made him the last pick (No. 262 overall) in this year's draft. He has completed 67 percent of his passes for 912 yards, eight touchdowns, three interceptions, and a passer rating of 103.2 this season.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is widely expected to land a contract extension worth north of $50 million per year. That seems inevitable, given the current quarterback market—unless Purdy opts to give the team a significant hometown discount.
