Kyle Juszczyk is 49ers’ nominee for 2022 Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award

Nov 22, 2022 at 11:46 AM--

The NFL announced the 32 nominees for the ninth annual Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award. Each NFL team nominated one of its players for the award, which recognizes players around the league who exemplify outstanding sportsmanship on the field.

The San Francisco 49ers' nominee is fullback Kyle Juszczyk, who has been with the team since signing in 2017.

Created in 2014, the award honors the late founding owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pro Football Hall of Famer Art Rooney Sr.

A panel of former players from the NFL Legends Community – Warrick Dunn, 2014 Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award recipient Larry Fitzgerald, Pro Football Hall of Famer Curtis Martin, and Leonard Wheeler – will select eight finalists (four in the AFC and four in the NFC) from the 32 nominees. The eight finalists will be listed on the Pro Bowl ballot under the NFL Sportsmanship Award category when players vote in December.

"These Rooney Sportsmanship Award nominees exemplify the fiercest competition combined with the excellence of sportsmanship," said Troy Vincent, EVP of Football Operations of the NFL. "It reflects the very values of respect, resilience, and fairness that inspire both teammates and opponents to be the best in the world."

The award is presented each year to an NFL player who best demonstrates the qualities of on-field sportsmanship, including fair play, respect for the game and opponents, and integrity in competition.

Details emerge on LB Fred Warner's restructured deal with 49ers

On Tuesday, the San Francisco 49ers created $9.5 million in salary cap space by restructuring the contract of linebacker Fred Warner. The deal remains a five-year one worth $95.225 million, and the player remains signed through the 2026 season. However, much of Warner's 2023 base salary has been converted to a signing bonus, paying him that amount immediately but allowing the 49ers to spread the salary-cap impact of the amount throughout the length of the contract. In Warner's case, the impact of the signing bonus will go beyond 2026, as the 49ers added a void year in 2027. Warner's 2023 salary cap number reduces from about $18.5 million to $9.049
