The San Francisco 49ers kicked off their second practice of the week as they prepare for their upcoming interconference matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs. The 49ers are among the most banged-up teams in the NFL right now, while the Chiefs are among the healthiest.

On Wednesday, San Francisco got a trio of players back on the practice field, with each hoping to play this weekend.

Defensive end Nick Bosa and safety Jimmie Ward missed this past weekend's matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. Bosa is dealing with a groin injury, while Ward broke his hand in Week 5's contest against the Carolina Panthers. Tackle Trent Williams returned to the practice field for the first time since suffering a high-ankle sprain during Week 3 against the Denver Broncos.

All three players were limited on Wednesday, and at least Bosa and Williams got some practice in during Thursday's session.

Reporters observing the early portion of practice (they must leave when team drills begin) didn't see cornerback Charvarius Ward on the field with his teammates. Ward suffered a groin injury against the Falcons.

Update: Both Wards were seen doing some work on a side field, away from practice.

Safety Talanoa Hufanga continued playing through Sunday's game after clearing tests for a concussion. However, he showed symptoms on Monday and entered the concussion protocol. While he wasn't on the field on Wednesday, reporters did see the safety on Thursday.

Also returning to practice is tackle Mike McGlinchey, who suffered a calf injury against the Falcons and did not practice on Wednesday. That means the 49ers might have both their starting tackles available when they take on the Chiefs.

The team will release its practice participation report later this afternoon. The 49ers host the Chiefs at Levi's Stadium on Sunday. Kick-off is set for 1:25 p.m. PT.
