The San Francisco 49ers improved to 3-2 on the season after a 37-15 Week 5 win over the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Below are several statistics and notes from Sunday's game, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.

  • The 49ers have won back-to-back regular season games against Carolina [W, 51-13 vs. Car. (10/27/19)].
  • The Niners improved to 6-6 all-time at Carolina.
  • Head coach Kyle Shanahan improved to 5-4, including two consecutive wins, against the NFC South as the head coach of the 49ers.

49ers Defense


  • The 49ers defense did not allow a TD in the first half for the 5th-consecutive game, marking the first time they accomplished the feat since 2011 (6-consecutive games from Weeks 8-13).
  • The streak marks the first time in franchise history that the 49ers defense did not allow a first-half TD in the first 5 games of the season and the first time among all NFL teams since Carolina accomplished the feat in 2013 [7 games: Weeks 1-8 (Week 4 Bye)].

Sack Party


  • The 49ers defense posted 6.0 sacks on the day. Along with 7.0 sacks vs. LAR (10/3/22), it marked the first time since Weeks 1 & 2 in 1985 that San Francisco had back-to-back games with 6.0-or-more sacks [6.0 vs. Atl. (9/15/85) & 9.0 at LV (9/22/85)].
  • With 13.0 sacks in Weeks 4-5, it also marked the most sacks registered by the team in a 2-week span since Weeks 1-2 in 1985 (15.0 sacks).
  • With 21.0 sacks through Weeks 1-5, it marked the most tallied by the team through the first 5 games of the season since Weeks 1-5 in 1998 (22.0 sacks).
  • DL Charles Omenihu sacked Panthers QB Baker Mayfield for a 6-yd. loss. With 1.0 sack today and 1.0 sack last week vs. LAR (10/3/22), Omenihu has recorded 1.0-or-more sacks in back-to-back games for the 2nd time in his career [1.0 vs. Bal. (9/20/20) & 1.0 at Pit. (9/27/20)].
  • LB Fred Warner recorded 9 tackles, 1 PD and 1.0 sack. The sack marked Warner's first of the season and gave him 5.5 in his career.
  • S Talanoa Hufanga tallied 5 tackles, 1 PD and 1.0 sack of Mayfield, marking the first sack of his career.
  • DL Drake Jackson brought down Mayfield for a 7-yd. loss, marking the 2nd of his rookie season.
  • LB Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles tallied 3 tackles and 1.0 sack of Panthers QB P.J. Walker. The sack marked the first of his career.
  • S Tashaun Gipson Sr. and LB Oren Burks combined to sack Walker. Gipson Sr. added 4 tackles on the day while Burks tallied 2.

Charvarius Ward


  • CB Charvarius Ward set a career-high with 4 PDs to go along with 3 tackles on the day.

Emmanuel Moseley


  • CB Emmanuel Moseley intercepted Panthers QB Baker Mayfield and returned it 41 yds. for a TD. The TD marked the first of his career, while the INT was Moseley's first of the season and the 4th of his career. He finished the game with 2 tackles and 2 PDs.
  • The INT returned for a TD was San Francisco's 8th since 2019, which is tied for the most in the NFL during that time frame (New England Patriots – 8).

Tevin Coleman


  • RB Tevin Coleman registered 3 rec. for 44 yds. and 1 TD to go along with 8 carries for 23 yds. and 1 TD. The 9-yd. TD recept., marked his first of the season and the 13th of his career, while the 5-yd. TD rush was his first of the season and the 25th of his career.
  • With 1 rushing TD & 1 rec. TD, it marked the 3rd time in his career that Coleman has registered at least 1 rushing TD and 1 rec. TD in a single game and the first time since 10/27/19 vs. Car (3 rushing & 1 rec.).
  • Coleman is the first player since WR Deebo Samuel [1 rushing & 1 rec. vs. LAR (11/15/21)] to register at least 1 rec. & 1 rushing TD in the same game.

Jeff Wilson Jr.


  • RB Jeff Wilson Jr. registered 17 carries for 120 yds. and 1 TD, including a career-long 41-yd. rush. With 120 yds. on the day, Wilson Jr. rushed for 100-or-more yds. for the 4th time in his career and for the first time since he tallied 110 yds. vs. Atl. (12/19/21). The TD was his 2nd of the season and the 15th of his career.

Deebo Samuel


  • WR Deebo Samuel registered 2 recepts. for 20 yds. and 1 TD to go along with 2 carries for 12 yds. The rec. TD marked his 2nd of the season and the 12th of his career.

The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of wide receiver Trent Taylor to a one-year deal, reuniting with the team's former fifth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech. Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area was the first to report that the 49ers were discussing a potential reunion with Taylor. The receiver was part of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch's first draft class in 2017 and spent his first four NFL seasons with the team. Draft Watch: Western Kentucky WR Malachi Corley visiting 49ers on Wednesday

The San Francisco 49ers are hosting several draft prospects this week as the deadline for pre-draft visits draws near. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, the team will host former Western Kentucky wide receiver Malachi Corley on Wednesday. Corley is expected to be a Day 2 pick. San Francisco owns two selections on Day 2—the No. 63 overall pick in the second round and the No. 94 overall pick in the third round. Currently, the receiver is visiting with the Seattle Seahawks. Rapoport: 49ers send clear message to teams inquiring about Brandon Aiyuk

Ian Rapoport didn't offer much of an update on the ongoing contract negotiations between the San Francisco 49ers and their standout wide receiver, Brandon Aiyuk. However, the NFL insider emphasized one thing: The team is not entertaining trade discussions at this juncture. Reacting to Aiyuk's decision to unfollow the 49ers on Instagram, Rapoport couldn't help but chuckle at the latest development. This practice has become commonplace among players who are unhappy with their contract situations. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel similarly took this action in 2022 before requesting to be traded just before the draft. Things have yet to escalate that far with Aiyuk, but Rapoport sees his

7-round mock draft from The Athletic sees 49ers fortifying defense early

Analyst Dane Brugler recently revealed his seven-round mock draft for The Athletic, forecasting all 257 selections in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, set to kick off next week. "Piecing together a mock like this is time consuming, but I enjoy the exercise, because it allows me to focus on each team's needs, organizational trends and prospect-team pairings that make sense based on '30' visits, league buzz and overall interest," Brugler wrote. Most expect the 49ers to address the trenches early in the draft, and Brugler has the team doing that. It's just not on the offensive side of the football.
