Arik Armstead missed this past weekend's game against the Denver Broncos due to a foot injury that has bothered the defensive lineman since before Week 1. He told NBC Sports Bay Area that he has been dealing with plantar fasciitis in his right foot. The injury got worse in the 49ers' Week 2 game against the Seattle Seahawks.
"It is improving," head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters, noting that Armstead will not practice on Thursday. "He was real close to going [against the Broncos]. We thought he did real good in that workout before the game, but we held him back, and it's still the same today as it was on game day. Hopefully, it will be good by Monday."
Before the Week 3 contest, Armstead had not missed a start or game since the 2017 season.
Shanahan didn't have an update on tackle Trent Williams, who suffered a high-ankle sprain on Sunday night. Obviously, he won't practice.
"We're still hoping he doesn't have to go on [injured reserve]," Shanahan said. "He won't need surgery or anything like that but still not sure with the high-ankle sprain."
In addition to Armstead and Williams, Shanahan noted that running back Ty Davis-Price (ankle), linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair (knee), and tight ends Tyler Kroft (knee) and Ross Dwelley (ribs) won't practice.
Offensive lineman Daniel Brunskill (hamstring) will return to practice but be limited. While he will work at guard and center, Shanahan noted that Brunskill can play any position along the offensive line.
