Arik Armstead missed this past weekend's game against the Denver Broncos due to a foot injury that has bothered the defensive lineman since before Week 1. He told NBC Sports Bay Area that he has been
dealing with plantar fasciitis in his right foot. The injury got worse in the 49ers' Week 2 game against the Seattle Seahawks.
"It is improving," head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters, noting that Armstead will not practice on Thursday. "He was real close to going [against the Broncos]. We thought he did real good in that workout before the game, but we held him back, and it's still the same today as it was on game day. Hopefully, it will be good by Monday."
Before the Week 3 contest, Armstead had not missed a start or game since the 2017 season.
Shanahan didn't have an update on tackle
Trent Williams, who suffered a high-ankle sprain on Sunday night. Obviously, he won't practice.
"We're still hoping he doesn't have to go on [injured reserve]," Shanahan said. "He won't need surgery or anything like that but still not sure with the high-ankle sprain."
In addition to Armstead and Williams, Shanahan noted that running back
Ty Davis-Price (ankle), linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair (knee), and tight ends Tyler Kroft (knee) and
Ross Dwelley (ribs) won't practice.
Offensive lineman Daniel Brunskill (hamstring) will return to practice but be limited. While he will work at guard and center, Shanahan noted that Brunskill can play any position along the offensive line.

49ers vs. Cardinals Injury Report: Deebo Samuel misses another practice; Dre Greenlaw returns
The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 4 contest against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
Deebo Samuel continues to rack up the absences. For the third time this week, the wide receiver missed practice. He did not participate in Monday's bonus practice or Wednesday's session. Samuel was on the field for the team's walk-through on Thursday but left for the weight room once his teammates started stretching in preparation for practice.
Linebacker Dre Greenlaw returned to practice for the first time this week after missing time due to an ankle injury. Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk (shoulder) shed his blue no-contact jersey, a sign that he could be nearing a return after being among the 49ers' inactives last
Deebo Samuel trusts 49ers' next-man-up mentality if he can't play vs. Cardinals
Deebo Samuel hopes to be on the field with his San Francisco 49ers teammates on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. However, speaking with reporters after Friday's practice, the wide receiver didn't sound overly optimistic about his chances of playing this weekend.
The 49ers officially listed Samuel as "questionable" for Sunday. His wide receiver teammate, Jauan Jennings, was listed as "doubtful," making him unlikely to play.
While Samuel was listed as a limited practice participant on Friday, most of his work was done on a side field with trainers.
"I feel pretty good," Samuel said after practice. "We'll just see how I continue to progress for the next
Kyle Shanahan's trust in Brock Purdy paying off for 49ers
I The San Francisco 49ers hit a snag in the second quarter on the team's second offensive possession of Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals. Running back Christian McCaffrey, who ended up having a phenomenal game, was stopped for no gain on 3rd-and-4.
Now faced with a 4th-and-4 in Cardinals territory, Kyle Shanahan decided to go for it. Is that a decision the head coach would have made with any of his previous quarterbacks? Fans can only speculate on that (and they did). It was a statement decision by Shanahan. It showed the level of trust the head coach has in his quarterback, Brock Purdy.
Purdy completed the fourth-down pass and all but one of every other pass
