49ers-Seahawks: Kyle Shanahan vs. Pete Carroll, Round 11

Sep 17, 2022 at 7:00 AM--

The San Francisco 49ers are 17-30 versus the Seattle Seahawks. Head coach Kyle Shanahan has only produced two wins out of the ten times he's faced his Seattle counterpart, Pete Carroll. The last time the 49ers beat the Seahawks was on December 29, 2019.

In December of 2021, the 49ers lost to the Seahawks 23-30 because Carroll didn't hold anything back. He wanted to win more by faking a punt on special teams, which caught the 49ers off guard. After that play, San Francisco never recovered. It was like they were traumatized, once again coming up short against their division rival.

The question is, what does Kyle Shanahan have to do to beat Carroll? It's simple—be more aggressive.

Football is the number one sport built off of aggression. There's contact in every play. Sometimes the players can be too aggressive and get unnecessary penalties which can negate the team getting free yards and extra opportunities. Carroll wins most of his matches with the 49ers because he does whatever it takes for his team to come out on top.

Perhaps Shanahan should take a page out of the veteran head coach's book. Every season, the 49ers put a more talented team on the field. However, the 49ers have fallen short of the Seahawks for the past two seasons. The old "bring it on" catchphrase states to "be aggressive, be be aggressive," even from the head coach position.

On Sunday, we'll learn which head coach wants it more.

49ers' Kyle Shanahan defends Jimmy Garoppolo run plays vs. Seahawks

By David Bonilla

The San Francisco 49ers had already lost Trey Lance for the game. Later, they would learn that he was done for the season. Jimmy Garoppolo replaced Lance, and the team was just one injury away from fullback Kyle Juszczyk playing snaps at quarterback. Juszczyk was the emergency quarterback, while rookie Brock Purdy was inactive. Shanahan gave Garoppolo some run plays, including a quarterback sneak to get the offense into the end zone later in the game. Jimmy G QB sneak 🙌And that should do it.📺:

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters via a conference call on Monday, the day after the team's 27-7 win over the Seattle Seahawks. Here is everything he had to say. Transcript provided by the San Francisco 49ers Communications staff. Opening comments: "Alright guys, injuries from the game. [TE] Tyler Kroft had an MCL sprain, he'll be out a few weeks. [RB] Ty Davis-Price had a high-ankle sprain. He'll miss a few weeks also. Go ahead." Have you spoken to QB Trey Lance today and how are his spirits after a successful surgery? 49ers' Kyle Juszczyk defends Kyle Shanahan's use of Trey Lance

One of the biggest debates since the San Francisco 49ers' Week 2 win over the Seattle Seahawks has been head coach Kyle Shanahan's use of Trey Lance. Many feel that the excessive use of quarterback runs unnecessarily put the second-year player in harm's way. Lance ended up suffering a season-ending ankle injury in the first quarter. During an interview on 95.7 The Game, fullback Kyle Juszczyk defended his head coach. He doesn't understand the criticism directed in Shanahan's direction, and the growing lack of trust from a very vocal segment of the fanbase. "I think he deserves that trust, and he's built that reputation to have that trust," Juszczyk told Damon Bruce and Ray Ratto. "He's had so much success in the decisions that he has made here that I think he's

Have Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch mismanaged the 49ers QB situation?

By Marc Adams

The San Francisco 49ers plan was set. Draft a young quarterback who would eventually replace Jimmy Garoppolo. The young draftee would be able to sit and learn under the veteran Garoppolo, and then take over in 2022. But things haven't exactly gone according to plan, and on Sunday, the plan imploded when Trey Lance broke his ankle—an injury that will cost him the remainder of the 2022 season. Much has been made about how well (or poorly) Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch have managed the 49ers quarterbacks. I've seen many fans and media blaming Shanahan for the current situation. Many have criticized the duo for how messy the QB situation has been since trading away two first-round round picks, and swapping another first-round pick, to draft a quarterback. Have
