San Francisco 49ers running Trey Sermon appeared to be dealing with an ankle injury following Thursday's joint practice with the Minnesota Vikings. He was seen walking "gingerly" to the team buses after the session.

According to Matt Barrows of The Athletic, Sermon appears to be "good to go." The running back will test his ankle ahead of tonight's preseason game against the Vikings. However, he is expected to play. Barrows notes that Sermon got the bulk of the first-team carries during this week's joint practices.

Starter Elijah Mitchell is expected to miss the entire preseason as he deals with a hamstring injury.

Most of the starters are expected to sit out tonight's game. The 49ers-Vikings matchup is the second of the team's three preseason games. On Thursday, the Niners will face the Houston Texans. Then, 17 days later, they will open the regular season on the road against the Chicago Bears.

San Francisco made Sermon (6-0, 215) a third-round selection (No. 88 overall) out of Ohio State last year. He carried the football 41 times for 167 yards and a rushing touchdown while adding three receptions for 26 yards through nine game appearances (two starts) last season, per Pro Football Reference.
