49ers’ Kyle Juszczyk on Jimmie Ward’s Top 100 Players debut: “He’s deserved that for a while”

Aug 16, 2022 at 4:30 PM--

In 2013, Baltimore Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta came in at No. 100 on the NFL Top 100 Players list. San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk called his good friend, giving him a hard time for not getting into the double digits.

Nine years later, Juszczyk finds himself named to his second consecutive NFL Top 100 Players list. Last year, the fullback came in at No. 97. This year? No. 100. Juszczyk admits that karma probably finally caught up with him. Although, he is happy just to be on the list because his peers vote on it.

"Honestly, that's one of the biggest recognitions I could get," Juszczyk admitted on Monday.

While several other 49ers players are bound to show up once Nos. 1-50 are announced, one of Juszczyk's teammates has already been announced to the NFL Top 100 Players list, and it is his debut. That would be veteran safety Jimmie Ward, who came in at No. 96.

"I was also so happy for Jimmie Ward because I think he's deserved that for a while," Juszczyk said. "Everyone here knows what a player he is, and to get that recognition from other players around the league, honestly, that felt even happier for Jimmie."

Unfortunately, a hamstring injury will sideline Ward for a few weeks. It's one severe enough to put the starting safety's Week 1 availability into doubt.

"Jimmie's a huge locker room guy and someone that I think we lean on to help younger guys," Juszczyk shared. "If I'm not mistaken, I think Trey Lance's locker is right next to Jimmie. I don't think that was by accident. He may seem quiet at times but believe me, he's a leader, and one that talks a lot kinda behind the scenes. He's kind of a linchpin of our defense that gives us a lot of variety in the things we can do when he's out there."

49ers' Kyle Juszczyk defends Kyle Shanahan's use of Trey Lance

One of the biggest debates since the San Francisco 49ers' Week 2 win over the Seattle Seahawks has been head coach Kyle Shanahan's use of Trey Lance. Many feel that the excessive use of quarterback runs unnecessarily put the second-year player in harm's way. Lance ended up suffering a season-ending ankle injury in the first quarter. During an interview on 95.7 The Game, fullback Kyle Juszczyk defended his head coach. He doesn't understand the criticism directed in Shanahan's direction, and the growing lack of trust from a very vocal segment of the fanbase. "I think he deserves that trust, and he's built that reputation to have that trust," Juszczyk told Damon Bruce and Ray Ratto. "He's had so much success in the decisions that he has made here that I think he's

Defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans, run game coordinator/offensive line coach Chris Foerster, tight end George Kittle, and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo were among those to speak to reporters on Friday. We have a rundown of their thoughts on the aforementioned subjects, as well as their reactions to the return of running backs coach Bobby Turner, who came back to the team after undergoing knee surgery. Let's get into that and more in this version of 49ers Notebook. A good problem The 49ers took an unwanted hit to their secondary towards

What Kyle Juszczyk said about the 49ers' transition from Trey Lance back to Jimmy Garoppolo

The transition from Trey Lance back to Jimmy Garoppolo has not been difficult for the San Francisco 49ers. Teammates are familiar with Garoppolo, who had been the Niners' starting quarterback since the final handful of games of the 2017 season. Garoppolo returned this season in a backup role. However, lance's season-ending injury (head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed today that it was indeed season-ending) has thrust the veteran quarterback back into the starting lineup. A reporter asked one 49ers player about the transition from Lance to Garoppolo. "I just want to start with I don't want to

49ers-Broncos Injury Report: Is George Kittle on track to make his season debut?

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 3 contest against the Denver Broncos on Sunday at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado. George Kittle suffered a groin injury on September 5. After missing Weeks 1 and 2, he looks on track to make his 2022 season debut. The tight end was a limited participant in practice for the second time this week and could be suited up in Denver this weekend. After practice, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was asked if it felt like old times having Kittle back at practice. "It's getting there," he responded. Defensive lineman Arik Armstead sustained a foot injury against Seattle. He missed his second consecutive practice. Offensive lineman Daniel Brunskill continues to miss
