The San Francisco 49ers have placed tight end Jordan Matthews on season-ending injured reserve, per the NFL's transaction wire. It was revealed that Matthews suffered a torn ACL during Monday's practice. He was later seen on crutches at the team facility.
According to Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network, the team also worked out three players. They are offensive linemen Jordan Mills, Tyree St. Louis, and Caleb Benenoch.

Matthews, a former wide receiver, initially joined the 49ers in 2019, signing a one-year deal. However, he was released during the final roster cuts ahead of the regular season. Matthews returned to the Philadelphia Eagles, the team that made him a second-round draft pick (No. 42 overall) out of Vanderbilt in 2014, before re-joining the 49ers on December 19, 2019.
In 2021, Matthews announced a switch to tight end, adding weight and re-signing with San Francisco that summer.
Matthews, 30, appeared in one game with the 49ers last season but did not register a reception. Per Pro Football Reference, he has caught 274 passes for 3,288 yards and 22 touchdowns in 76 game appearances (46 starts) through his eight NFL seasons with the Eagles, Buffalo Bills, and 49ers.
