The San Francisco 49ers quarterback storyline had an update on Wednesday, with the team permitting Jimmy Garoppolo's agents to seek a trade. There have been no reports of updates on the Deebo Samuel front, though. That may be because there have been no updates regarding a contract extension for the star wide receiver.
"I can tell you the sides have been in communication," Tom Pelissero reported on NFL Network. "They have had contract talks on a long-term deal that would keep Deebo in San Francisco. But at this point, there is absolutely nothing that is imminent."
There's no deal imminent between the #49ers and WR Deebo Samuel and it's unclear whether he'll report to mandatory Training Camp, per @TomPelissero

In April, after watching several other NFL wide receivers earn significant paydays, a frustrated Samuel requested to be traded. The 49ers, knowing how valuable Samuel is to the offense, declined to grant that request.
"The 49ers turned down trade offers, including a first-round pick and more, prior to the NFL Draft," Pelissero continued. "Deebo showed up to mandatory minicamp [but] did not participate in team drills. Players report—the veterans for the 49ers (all players, actually)—next Tuesday, so if there is not a long-term deal in place by then, does Deebo hold out? Does he hold in? Does he show up business as usual? All that is still to be determined."
Samuel is back in the Bay Area, preparing for the upcoming season. This week, a video of Samuel and his trainer was shared on Instagram, with the trainer declaring that the wide receiver is "about to get paid."
"The trainer is right on one thing," Pelissero commented. "Deebo is about to get paid ... eventually. Now, at this point, of course, trainers don't negotiate contracts."
