The San Francisco 49ers have officially canceled the remainder of the team's offseason program, making Wednesday the last time players gather on the Santa Clara practice field until training camp at the end of July.

The 49ers initially planned to hold their three-day mandatory minicamp next week but moved it up to this week, canceling the third day of activities and having a family day for players, coaches, and staff instead.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan hinted that organized team activities might still take place next week. Although, it seemed unlikely, especially after dropping Thursday's practice and media availability. Next week's schedule has officially been cleared, which means 49ers players receive a little lengthier of a break before returning for the grind of training camp.

This week, while explaining why the minicamp was moved up in the schedule, Shanahan shared that he doesn't believe so many offseason practices are necessary.

"I don't think we're going to need 12 [Phase 3 practices]," Shanahan said on Tuesday, "so I thought it made more sense to move the minicamp up, get everybody here. We'll see how this week goes and see what we think we need at the end of the week."

Apparently, Shanahan saw what he needed and feels the team put in enough work during the offseason program.
