NFL suspends Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins for six games

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the NFL is suspending Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins for six games for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy.

Because they are in the same division, the San Francisco 49ers play the NFC West rival Cardinals twice during the regular season. It is currently unknown how this new development will impact the matchups between the two teams because the NFL won't release the 2022 schedule until May 12.

We could learn the date of one of the two matchups earlier. The 49ers are candidates to serve as the road team for the Cardinals' regular-season international home game at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. That game's date and the Cardinals' opponent will be announced on Wednesday.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the Cardinals likely knew about the impending suspension heading into the draft, which explains why they traded for wide receiver Marquise Brown.

Hopkins, 29, contributed 42 receptions for 572 yards and eight touchdowns through 10 starts with the Cardinals last season, missing three weeks due to a hamstring injury and then landing on injured reserve on December 18 due to a torn MCL.

The Houston Texans drafted Hopkins (6-1, 212) out of Clemson with the No. 27 overall pick in 2013.

49ers' five most difficult games in 2024

By Marc Adams
May 19

Which 2024 game will be the most difficult for the San Francisco 49ers? There are a few to choose from. The NFL schedule-makers did the 49ers no favors. They will travel more air miles than most teams and have the worst rest disadvantage in the league at -21. That means they have multiple games in which the other team is coming off a bye or a mini-bye. Even when the 49ers seem to have an advantage because they're coming off a mini-bye, their next game is against a team returning from their bye week. The Baltimore Ravens, on the other hand, have the best rest advantage in the league (+16). Last week I highlighted the 49ers' top five non-divisional games. Those are the most important

Charvarius Ward is brimming with confidence in himself and his team, the San Francisco 49ers. Fresh off a Super Bowl appearance, the cornerback, affectionately known as "Mooney," believes his squad will again be among the NFL's top teams. The 49ers entered the playoffs last season as NFC West champions and the No. 1 seed in the conference. While many believe the division has improved this offseason and that the gap between the Los Angeles Rams and the 49ers may have closed, Ward remains certain his Niners are still the team to beat. Edholm: 49ers boast NFL's most complete roster in 2024

By David Bonilla
May 22

The San Francisco 49ers are once again recognized as having one of the best rosters in the NFL. Is it perfect? No. There are concerns about the offensive line, particularly on the right side. The defensive interior lost veteran Arik Armstead. At safety, Talanoa Hufanga returns from a major injury, while Ji'Ayir Brown enters his sophomore NFL season. Still, the team boasts an impressive amount of talent and depth that few others can match. NFL Media's Eric Edholm recently assessed the league and identified the 10 most complete teams entering the 2024 season. The 49ers topped his list, ahead of the Baltimore Ravens and the Super Bowl champion Kansas City
