The San Francisco 49ers went into the offseason looking to address their holes, pursuing a cornerback and multiple special-teamers to round out their roster heading into the draft.
However, following their additions, there are still numerous areas of improvement on the roster, making this draft one of high importance for San Francisco as they aim to contend once again in 2022 following an NFC Championship appearance in 2021.
Currently, the 49ers still have a hole at the safety position opposite Jimmie Ward as Tarvarious Moore, George Odum, and Talanoa Hufanga haven't proven enough at the NFL level to be considered starting-caliber players in the secondary.
Additionally, the 49ers have concerns surrounding the offensive line, with Alex Mack's future still somewhat uncertain and the right guard spot being the weakest on the offensive line last season. Not to mention, right tackle Mike McGlinchey is coming off a torn quadriceps injury, which can significantly hinder a player's career, raising questions at all three spots on the offensive line.
However, San Francisco is in a spot where their areas of improvement aren't significantly glaring to the point where they're required to draft any position with their first pick in the draft and can rather go best player available, where they tend to select players well, which we've seen via their late-round success.
