The league year has officially come and, unexpectedly, Jimmy Garoppolo is still on the roster, as the 49ers restructured the contracts of defensive lineman Arik Armstead and tight end George Kittle to accommodate Garoppolo's contract and get under the cap prior to 1 PM on Wednesday.

No, although with JG still on the roster, it's limiting the FA's the team might have been able to sign. Still, if it's after the draft or even in July before they can trade him, there'll still be some players available The biggest thing is to shed the $25.5 M cap hit, whenever that happens.

I do not understand all this hate towards Jimmy G. In my opinion he is a good quarterback. There has been some unfortunate bad luck with injuries on both sides of the ball. Players have had to step up. But no doubt in my mind has those injuries affected the team's success. Yes, it would be nice to win the Superbowl. I do believe Jimmy as an individual has the ability to do that. The game is a team sport. It depends on the synergy of effort. I feel Jimmy deserves to be a 49er. We do win games when he and the key players on the team are healthy - when our running backs and O-line is healthy, when our pass rushers are healthy, and defensive backfield is healthy. It is quite easy to argue this has not been the case and the team as a whole has suffered. Wins and losses do not rest solely on one man.

Should the 49ers be worried about Christian McCaffrey's workload?

By Al Sacco
Apr 11

It's not an exaggeration to say that RB Christian McCaffrey is coming off one of the best individual seasons in the history of the San Francisco 49ers. In his first full year in red and gold, McCaffrey led the NFL in rushing yards (1,459), total yards (2,023) and total touchdowns (21) on his way to becoming Offensive Player of the Year. His yards on the ground were the fourth most ever for a Niners running back and his 21 touchdowns trailed only WR Jerry Rice's team record of 23, which the Hall of Famer accomplished in just 12 games in 1987. McCaffrey was also prolific in the passing game, hauling in 67 receptions and often providing a safety net for QB Brock Purdy. Because McCaffrey has meant so much to Kyle Shanahan's scheme, it's easy to see why the offense
