The Indianapolis Colts traded away Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders and now find themselves among the quarterback-needy NFL teams. Following the trade news, NFL Media's Ian Rapoport stated that the Colts are expected to be "in the mix" for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

Jordan Schultz reports that the Colts will "strongly consider" Garoppolo as the team seeks a new starting quarterback.

Such a deal would reunite Garoppolo with All-Pro and Pro Bowl defensive tackle DeForest Buckner. The 49ers traded the defender to the Colts in 2020.
On Tuesday, Garoppolo underwent shoulder surgery and is expected to be sidelined for 16 weeks. However, most expect NFL teams to remain interested as the offseason quarterback picture takes shape. Garoppolo could be among the best available options with several veteran signal-callers now off the table and a down year for rookie quarterback talent.
The 49ers have indicated that they are open to sharing medical information with NFL teams inquiring about Garoppolo. However, it remains unclear when a deal might take place. Some reports predict that San Francisco could trade Garoppolo before the start of the new league year on March 16. However, others believe a deal could be delayed until closer to the 2022 NFL Draft.
The Pittsburgh Steelers, Colts, and even the New Orleans Saints could be teams to watch as the Garoppolo chatter heats up.
