If this really is the end of the Jimmy Garoppolo era in Santa Clara, the veteran quarterback will be greatly missed within the San Francisco 49ers locker room. Players consistently praised their quarterback of the last four-and-a-half seasons, since a mid-season trade in 2017 shipped him from the New England Patriots to the Niners.

Garoppolo finished 31-14 as a starter with the 49ers, leading the team to two NFC Championship games and a Super Bowl appearance.

On Tuesday, Garoppolo sounded like a man who knew his time in Santa Clara was over, admitting that some tough conversations with team decision-makers had already taken place, and there would likely be more to come. Most expect Garoppolo to be traded this offseason and for the 49ers to transition to last year's No. 3 overall pick, Trey Lance.

"I've got a long career ahead of me," Garoppolo told reporters via Zoom. "So I'm excited about it. I'm excited about the opportunities to come. I just want to go to a place where they want to win. I mean, that's really what I'm in this game for. I'm here to play football here, to win football games. And as long as I've got that and good people around me, I think the rest will take care of itself."

Then, Garoppolo said his goodbyes to the media, thanking reporters for the "fun ride" before thanking the dedicated fans.

"Faithful, thank you very much for everything," Garoppolo said via Zoom. "It's been crazy, man. Just all the comebacks at Levi's, comebacks on the road, ups and downs. It's been a hell of a ride guys. I love you guys."

Defensive lineman Arik Armstead wanted to publicly thank Garoppolo for everything he did for the team, remembering the struggles before the quarterback's arrival.

"[O]ur team was in some dark days before you came. Fortunate to see the [day-to-day] process and what you go through. Major respect for you," Armstead tweeted out.

49ers allowing Arik Armstead to leave was a 'tough' decision

By David Bonilla
Mar 27

Arik Armstead was the longest-tenured member of the San Francisco 49ers, joining the team as a first-round draft pick two years before head coach Kyle Shanahan's tenure began. Despite the team's efforts to retain him by negotiating a restructured contract, they ultimately released the veteran defensive lineman when no agreement was reached. "It was real tough," Shanahan said this week about the situation. "I mean, we've been with Arik since we've been here, and I know he was here a couple of years before us, so it wasn't something we really wanted to happen. It's one of the tough things when trying to keep a team together, and just where it goes with the salary cap and stuff." Betting on himself, Armstead wanted to test free agency to see if anyone would be

Arik Armstead: I felt 'extremely disrespected' by the 49ers

By David Bonilla

Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle Arik Armstead wanted to make one thing clear: He harbors no animosity toward his former team, the San Francisco 49ers, despite his recent release. However, that doesn't mean he liked how the situation played out. The two sides had tried to work on a contract restructuring to prevent his departure but ultimately could not reach an agreement, leading to Armstead's exit. On his podcast, "Third and Long," Armstead opened up about the situation, stating that the offer the 49ers extended was insulting, especially after playing nine seasons for the organization. After the Super Bowl, the 49ers approached Armstead to discuss the restructure, which he expected. The team had initially indicated that they wanted to sign him

Mar 19

Offensive lineman Jon Feliciano and linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles recently re-signed with the San Francisco 49ers on one-year deals. OverTheCap.com has revealed the contract information for both deals. Feliciano signed a contract that includes the minimum base salary for a player with eight accrued seasons of experience—$1.21 million. Flannigan-Fowles' base salary is slightly higher, at about $1.77 million. Feliciano is scheduled to count about $2.28 million against the 2024 salary cap, while Flannigan-Fowles is slated to consume almost $1.3 million. The linebacker's reduced impact is due to the 49ers using a portion of up to $1.45 million of salary that won't count against the salary cap for veteran players. The 49ers are paying Feliciano a

Details emerge on Leonard Floyd's 2-year deal with 49ers

By Site Staff
Mar 25

At the start of free agency, the San Francisco 49ers signed defensive end Leonard Floyd to a two-year deal worth $20 million, with $12 million guaranteed. It has been the team's most significant offseason move thus far. OverTheCap.com recently revealed Floyd's contract details. While the deal may be for two years, three void years are attached to the contract, allowing the defensive end's $10.79 million signing bonus to be spread through 2028. Floyd's impact in 2024 is minimal. He is scheduled to earn a guaranteed $1.21 million base salary and count only $3.418 million against this year's salary cap. The following are the details of Floyd's
