The San Francisco 49ers chapter of the Pro Football Writers of America announced that two players are the co-winners of this year's Garry Niver Award recipient. The first is last year's winner, tackle Trent Williams. The second is quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area delivered the news to Williams during a Zoom press conference on Monday.
The Garry Niver Award is presented by the 49ers chapter of the Pro Football Writers of America and goes to the individual who best represents professionalism and cooperation with the media. The award is named after pro football writer, Garry Niver, who was a long-time beat writer who covered the 49ers for the San Mateo Times.
Both Garoppolo and Williams played through injuries in Sunday's NFC Championship Game against the Los Angeles Rams. Garoppolo was still dealing with a right thumb and right shoulder injury while Williams played through a high-ankle sprain. San Francisco lost 20-17.
