49ers open practice window for RB Trenton Cannon, announce other roster moves

Jan 12, 2022 at 1:21 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers officially announced that the practice window for running back Trenton Cannon has been opened. He suffered a concussion on December 5 against the Seattle Seahawks and was placed on injured reserve on December 11.

Additionally, the team restored safety Doug Middleton to the practice squad from the practice squad injured reserve list, signed punter Ryan Winslow to the team's practice squad, and released quarterback Tyler Bray from the practice squad.

Regular punter Mitch Wishnowsky is in the concussion protocol.

The 49ers Communications staff provided the following rundown.

Winslow (6-5, 217) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent on May 11, 2018. Following his release from the Bears on September 1, 2018, Winslow later spent time with the Arizona Cardinals (2019, 2021), Green Bay Packers (2020), Carolina Panthers (2021) and Washington Football Team (2021). He has appeared in six games and punted 22 times for 916 yards (41.6 average) with five downed inside the 20. He was released from Washington's practice squad on January 4, 2022. This season, he saw action in one game with Arizona, two games with Carolina and one game with Washington, punting 16 times for 625 yards.

A 27-year-old native of Wyndmoor, PA, Winslow attended the University of Pittsburgh (2013-17), where appeared in 51 games and punted 226 times for 9,513 yards (42.1 average) with 70 downed inside the 20.

The NFL will unveil the league's complete 272-game 2022 schedule on Thursday night at 5:00 p.m. PT. It is common for select week-to-week opponent matchups to leak before the official announcement. On May 4, the NFL revealed that the 49ers will travel to Mexico City on November 21 to face the Arizona Cardinals at Estadio Azteca—a Week 11 primetime matchup on ESPN's Monday Night Football. The 49ers will face the third-place teams in the NFC East, NFC North, and AFC East. The team is also slated to play the entire NFC South and AFC West. NFL Kickoff Weekend will begin on

Last week, we found out what numbers many of the San Francisco 49ers rookies would be wearing during the team's three-day rookie minicamp. Those numbers will be sticking around through at least the rest of the offseason program. Obviously, they are subject to change after roster cuts ahead of Week 1. Matt Barrows of The Athletic tweeted out several rookie jersey numbers, including select undrafted free agents. Missing from his tweet, however, was the number of the 49ers' fifth-round draft pick, cornerback Samuel Womack. The team announced that he will wear No. 26, last worn by cornerback Josh Norman.
