Jan 4, 2022 at 1:58 PM--

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance has been nominated for his first Pepsi Zero Sugar NFL Rookie of the Week Award. The nomination comes after the Niners' 23-7 Week 17 home win over the Houston Texans, Lance's second career start. This is the 49ers rookie's first league-sponsored award nomination.

Lance completed 16 of 23 pass attempts for 249 yards, two touchdowns, one interception, and a passer rating of 116.0. He also added eight carries for 31 yards on the ground.

The other award nominees are quarterback Mac Jones of the New England Patriots, wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals, running back Najee Harris of the Pittsburgh Steelers, wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions, and running back Rhamondre Stevenson of the Patriots.

Fans can click here to vote for the 49ers rookie through Friday.

San Francisco made Lance, a former North Dakota State quarterback, the No. 3 overall draft pick in April. He has passed for 603 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions through six game appearances and two starts this season.

49ers rookie Danny Gray prepared for Trey Lance after practicing with "legend" in offseason

By Rohan Chakravarthi

San Francisco 49ers rookie wideout Danny Gray spoke with the media for the first time since his draft interview, as he prepared for the 49ers' rookie minicamp, which is slated to begin on Friday. Gray, who was selected with the last pick in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 105th overall, is a player with electrifying straight-line speed, which was confirmed with his 4.33 40-yard dash at the combine. However, Gray's talents aren't limited to just his speed; he works well with the ball in his hands and can be physical after the catch, despite his relatively slight 186-pound frame. When addressing his skillset, Gray acknowledged the biggest development over his

In February, Vic Fangio met with the San Francisco 49ers, and some felt he might join the team as a consultant for the 2022 season. However, it was later reported that the longtime coach would be taking a year off. Fangio served as the 49ers' defensive coordinator from 2011-14 before serving in the same role with the Chicago Bears (2015-18) and then the Denver Broncos head coach (2019-21). San Francisco looked to bring Fangio back when Kyle Shanahan became the head coach in 2017, but Fangio couldn't get out of his contract with the Bears. Fangio is back in Santa

Nick Bosa, Trey Lance among those who immediately welcomed Drake Jackson to the 49ers

It was amazing for new San Francisco 49ers defensive end Drake Jackson to hear his name called on Friday night during the second day of the 2022 NFL Draft. His new teammate, Arik Armstead, announced the pick. Even more amazing for the 21-year-old defender was having several of his new 49ers teammates, including Armstead and Nick Bosa, immediately reach out to him. "It's crazy. I talked to both of them," Jackson said Wednesday morning on KNBR's Murph & Mac show. "Nick Bosa texted me. Arik Armstead FaceTimed me right after. ... Trey Lance had called me. Emmanuel Moseley hit me up. I was astounded. I'm like, 'Damn, this is crazy.' Everybody hitting me up off the team, but they're kind of like legends too. I'm fanboying, but I've got to be professional

Why PFF believes Trey Lance is in a good situation with 49ers in 2022

Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, Justin Fields, and Mac Jones. Those are the former first-round quarterbacks set to enter their second NFL seasons. Lawrence and Jones started all 17 games in 2021. Wilson started 13, and Fields started 10. Lance earned just two starts. However, that doesn't mean the soon-to-be 22-year-old San Francisco 49ers quarterback isn't set up for success. Analyst Sam Monson ranked the current team situations for the NFL's top second-year quarterbacks in 2022. Zach Wilson topped the list after the New York Jets' offseason efforts to build around their own 22-year-old quarterback. Right behind him, though, is Lance, who comes in at No. 2. That makes sense. After all, he's on a team that has been to the NFC title game twice in the past three
