49ers open practice window for Trey Sermon, waive Tyrell Adams

The San Francisco 49ers announced that the practice window for rookie running back Trey Sermon has been opened. The team placed him on injured reserve on December 4 due to an ankle injury.

The 49ers announced that linebacker Tyrell Adams has been waived. Adams (6-2, 230) appeared in five games for the team in 2021 and registered one tackle on special teams.

According to the NFL transaction wire, San Francisco also protected the following practice squad players ahead of Thursday night's road game against the Tennessee Titans.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch have stated that Trey Lance's ankle injury in September was a season-ender since the injury occurred. Lynch reaffirmed that this morning on KNBR while adding that the team has been impressed with the quarterback's recovery. Unfortunately, it's just a bit much to expect Lance to return to the field this season. "He'll be fine long-term, but that's a big ask to get back this year," Lynch said. That didn't stop a reporter from asking Shanahan about the possibility ahead of today's practice. Could Lance return to serve as Jimmy Garoppolo's backup if the 49ers embarked on a deep playoff

Lance is out of his protective boot and appears to be walking fine just two months after undergoing surgery to repair the damage sustained from the season-ending right ankle injury.
