49ers sign two to the practice squad, announce other moves

The San Francisco 49ers announced the following practice squad moves ahead of Sunday's Week 13 clash with the Seattle Seahawks.
- LB Justin March and S Doug Middleton were signed to the practice squad
- WR Devin Funchess was placed on the practice squad injured reserve list
- S Kai Nacua has been released from the practice squad
The 49ers Communications staff provided the following rundown.
March (6-0, 222) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent on May 11, 2015. Throughout his six-year career with the Chiefs (2015-16), Miami Dolphins (2017), Seattle Seahawks (2017), and Dallas Cowboys (2017-20), he has appeared in 59 games (five starts) and registered 29 tackles and three passes defensed. March was signed by the Tennessee Titans on May 6, 2021. He was placed on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury List on August 26 and was later released on September 6.
A 28-year-old native of Danville, IL, March attended the University of Akron, where he appeared in 46 games (35 starts) and finished with 250 tackles, 14 passes defensed, four interceptions, and 3.5 sacks.
Middleton (6-0, 210) originally entered the NFL after signing with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent on May 6, 2016. Throughout his five-year career with the Jets (2016-18), Miami Dolphins (2019), and Jacksonville Jaguars (2019-20), he has appeared in 24 games (four starts) and registered 28 tackles and four passes defensed. Middleton was signed by the Carolina Panthers on August 4, 2021. He was waived by the team on August 28, signed to the team's practice squad on October 13, and was released the following day.
A 28-year-old native of Winston-Salem, NC, Middleton attended Appalachian State University, where he appeared in 60 games (32 starts) and finished with 201 tackles, six interceptions, and 1.0 sack.

Two reported 49ers pre-draft visits didn't end up happening
Despite initial reports, two draft prospects who were set to visit the San Francisco 49ers ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft ultimately did not meet with the team. Matt Barrows of The Athletic revealed that former USC wide receiver Brenden Rice and former Oregon safety Jamal Hill didn't end up visiting the Bay Area organization.
Barrows wrote, "Meanwhile, a report in March indicated that USC receiver Brenden Rice, the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerry Rice, would visit the 49ers, but he didn't end up coming, according to two league sources."

49ers sign WR Trent Taylor, reuniting with former draft pick
The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of wide receiver Trent Taylor to a one-year deal, reuniting with the team's former fifth-round draft pick out of Louisiana Tech.
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area was the first to report that the 49ers were discussing a potential reunion with Taylor. The receiver was part of head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch's first draft class in 2017 and spent his first four NFL seasons with the team.

Draft Watch: Western Kentucky WR Malachi Corley visiting 49ers on Wednesday
The San Francisco 49ers are hosting several draft prospects this week as the deadline for pre-draft visits draws near. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, the team will host former Western Kentucky wide receiver Malachi Corley on Wednesday.
Corley is expected to be a Day 2 pick. San Francisco owns two selections on Day 2—the No. 63 overall pick in the second round and the No. 94 overall pick in the third round. Currently, the receiver is visiting with the Seattle Seahawks.

Rapoport: 49ers send clear message to teams inquiring about Brandon Aiyuk
Ian Rapoport didn't offer much of an update on the ongoing contract negotiations between the San Francisco 49ers and their standout wide receiver, Brandon Aiyuk. However, the NFL insider emphasized one thing: The team is not entertaining trade discussions at this juncture.
