Today, the San Francisco 49ers added some defensive-line depth by trading a late-round 2023 draft pick for Houston Texans pass rusher Charles Omenihu, a former fifth-round draft pick.
Trades often come out of nowhere, taking the players involved by surprise. That was the case for Omenihu.
"A little bit of shock, but I know it's a business," Omenihu said via Houston-area reporter Aaron Wilson. "It happens. I appreciate the city of Houston; I appreciate the organization for drafting me, and all the guys in my time here. It's a new opportunity, and I'm ready."
Omenihu also has a message for his new fans.
"San Francisco, I'm ready," he added. "The 49ers are a historic organization. They know what it looks like to get it done and win. I'm ready for new beginnings and a new experience."
The trade deadline is this afternoon. The 49ers will hold their first practice of the week on Wednesday. The team is coming off a 33-22 road victory over the Chicago Bears and preparing for its Week 9 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals at Levi's Stadium.

49ers ecstatic about fast 3-0 start but know they can improve
There was a common theme from the San Francisco 49ers when reporters asked about the team's impressive 3-0 start to the season. The locker room is ecstatic about the fast start but also knows they aren't where they want to be just yet.
Last season, the 49ers lost four of their first seven games. The team was 1-2 after three games. So, remaining undefeated through Week 3 this season means a lot.
"That's the goal, and real happy to be 3-0 right now," head coach Kyle Shanahan said. "It's really cool to do it after a Thursday night game. There's not many times in the NFL where you get to enjoy a win more than just that night, so it's always cool when you win on Thursdays.
"I told the guys if they want to win and have a weekend off, we got to earn it, and
49ers the new favorite to win Super Bowl 58
There is a new betting favorite to win Super Bowl 58. Through three weeks of the 2023 NFL season, oddsmakers like the San Francisco 49ers' chances of emerging as NFL champions at Allegiant Stadium in February.
According to Odds Shark, the Niners sit at +550. They are ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs at +600, the Philadelphia Eagles at +650, and the Miami Dolphins at +800. They aren't alone. DraftKings Sportsbook has San Francisco at an NFL-best +600.
San Francisco opened their season with a 30-7 road victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Kyle Shanahan's squad beat the Los Angeles Rams 30-23 at SoFi Stadium in Week 2 and the New York Giants 30-12 at home in Week 3.
The 49ers offense is No. 3 in points scored, No. 4 in total yards, No. 3 in rushing
49ers Game Day Eats - Whats New at Levi's Stadium
Two weeks into the NFL season, fans can finally look forward to the San Francisco 49ers' home opener under the national spotlight. What's on the menu this year? I had the chance to preview some of the upcoming bites at the Levi's Stadium Concessions Showcase.
I checked out Levi's Stadium food selection along with a couple of new local vendors for the upcoming season.
We were introduced to Levi's Stadium and Levy Restaurants' new Executive Chef, Alvin Kabiling, who takes the reign after working with former executive chef Jon Severson for the last several years. Kabiling recognizes that many local fans are "foodies"
Anthony Brown eager to help new 49ers teammates beat Giants
The San Francisco 49ers signed Anthony Brown this week, and the cornerback is ready to help his new teammates defeat the New York Giants. However, that help may not come from Brown taking the field on Thursday night.
Brown spent his first seven NFL seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, so he is familiar with the Niners' upcoming opponent, having played in the NFC East for many years. Brown was a starter for Dallas until suffering a torn Achilles in December.
"Just getting here, so I'm just trying to basically tell the guys as much as I can, and if they have any questions on little tips and little pointers," Brown told Larry Krueger this week. "The Giants pretty much show up every week in their game plan, and trying to help the corners and DBs as much as I
