Covid Hits Jimmie Ward and 49ers' Secondary

By Chris Beno

The 49ers secondary has taken a beating this season, losing its top cornerback Jason Verrett to a torn ACL in Week One. Since then, injuries have continued to plague players in the secondary, as the team has had to rely on rookies and free-agent veterans to step in and carry the load. This week, the secondary has taken a few more hits as two players were added to the Reserve/Covid list. Cornerbacks Dontae Johnson and K'waun Williams and safety Jimmie Ward all tested positive for Covid-19 or got popped through contact tracing. Of course, as fans are well aware, an almost clean bill of health for the team after a game doesn't mean it

Shanahan stuck to his stance of not announcing a starter between Garoppolo and rookie Trey Lance in order to give Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris more to think about, but he was clearly encouraged with what he saw from Garoppolo at practice throughout the week after missing last Sunday's start against the Houston Texans with a thumb injury. "He had a good week—a good week of practice when he was in there. I feel good with where he's at right now," Shanahan
