San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw was inactive during Week 1. He played this past weekend, though, and even had an impressive field-goal block in the Week 2 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters via a conference call today and named Kinlaw among the team's list of injuries. It's not a new injury, though. Kinlaw has been dealing with knee issues for a while now. The injury initially occurred against the Dallas Cowboys last season, forcing the then-rookie to miss the last two games of season.
Shanahan said the team will manage Kinlaw's knee injury this week, which could once again mean limited practice for the second-year defender.
"It's the same situation that he's had," Shanahan told reporters. "I mean, you guys know his knee has been bothering him, so we've been [managing it]. This is the first time this year we were able to get him to the game, and just the fact that I didn't hear he had any setbacks today — I haven't seen him personally, but I know he was pretty positive with it, and we didn't see anything get worse. I feel that's a good sign, not a bad sign.
"But he's not out of the woods at all yet. We're still going to have to work throughout the week to keep making sure it goes in the right direction like I feel like it is right now."
Starting on Wednesday, the 49ers will hold three full practices this week as the team prepares to host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night. We'll see how much work Kinlaw can go through leading to the game.
