49ers-Lions Injury Report: Trey Lance good to go; Emmanuel Moseley, Javon Kinlaw doubtful; Jalen Hurd ruled out

Sep 10, 2021 at 1:38 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 1 contest against the Detroit Lions on Sunday at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.

All eyes were on rookie quarterback Trey Lance as the team's final practice of the week started. The quarterback was once again throwing the football fine, as was the case on Wednesday and Thursday.

"He's doing good. He's had a good week," head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters today.

Shanahan added that the plan for Lance on Sunday has not changed due to the injury, which would indicate that the rookie quarterback will likely be available against the Lions.

Cornerback Emmanuel Moseley, defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw, and wide receiver Jalen Hurd did not practice. Hurd has been ruled out while Moseley and Kinlaw are listed as doubtful. Shanahan said there remains a chance that Kinlaw is available on Sunday.

For the Lions, left tackle Taylor Decker has been ruled out. Rookie Penei Sewell is expected to start in his place and go against Nick Bosa, Dee Ford, and the rest of the 49ers pass rushers.

Below are the official injury reports for the 49ers and Lions, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff. Also included are Friday's practice participation reports.

49ers' Emmanuel Moseley seeks to help Trey Lance, stop Brandon Aiyuk

By David Bonilla

Emmanuel Moseley is always open to helping his San Francisco 49ers teammates. One, however, doesn't seem to need any help. In fact, the fifth-year cornerback is looking to stop one teammate who has been a headache thus far for the defense. Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is having an excellent training camp, putting in day after day of impressive effort. The 49ers defensive backs have been praising Aiyuk, expecting the third-year wideout to have a breakout season. "Right now, he's having an outstanding camp," safety Jimmie Ward said this week. "I feel like he's having the best camp out of everybody on the team, offense and defense." Ward noted maybe only

49ers' Emmanuel Moseley working with Charvarius Ward to become a better press corner

Cornerback Emmanuel Moseley is entering his fifth NFL season. That's the same experience—as far as years—as his new teammate, Charvarius Ward. In March, the San Francisco 49ers signed the 26-year-old Ward to a three-year, $40.5 million contract, bolstering the defensive back room. While the two cornerbacks entered the league at the same time, Ward has over 1,000 more career snaps on defense (2,719 to 1,676). So Moseley knows there is a lot he can learn from Ward. "He's a great press corner, so I'm learning from him," Moseley told reporters on Wednesday. "Just the attitude that he brings every day to the meetings, talking to the younger guys, and even coaching me up. I like Charvarius, and I'm ready to work with him." Moseley has been

49ers DL Arik Armstead sidelined with knee sprain; DT Javon Kinlaw, OL Mike McGlinchey to return to team drills soon

The 49ers have their first notable injury of this year's training camp, but it doesn't sound like it's something of a serious nature. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed Friday morning that defensive lineman Arik Armstead sprained his MCL at practice this week and that it could require some time to recover. Armstead was missing at practice on Thursday and could be out for a while. "It's probably going to be a few weeks. Nothing we're concerned about, but we're taking some time away," Shanahan said. Shanahan said Armstead took a bruise during practice that wasn't an issue at first but flared up after practice. After going through examinations, the 49ers decided to put Armstead on the sidelines. "It didn't bother him that bad but it

49ers' DeMeco Ryans identifies training camp focus for Javon Kinlaw: 'Technique, technique, technique'

By David Bonilla

San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw is big, strong, and has all the tools to succeed in the NFL. His 2020 rookie campaign was underwhelming, racking up just 1.5 sacks to go along with 33 tackles, three for a loss, four quarterback hits, and one interception. Kinlaw's 2021 campaign was cut short by injury. The former No. 14 overall pick appeared in only four games before undergoing season-ending reconstructive surgery to repair his ACL. With Kinlaw making his way back to the football field, reporters were curious about the training camp focus for the 6-foot-5 defender. "Kinlaw, I tell him every day as I walk by him. I just say, 'Technique, technique, technique," defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans said on Wednesday. "That's the main thing. If he just
