49ers re-signing TE Jordan Matthews, lose 3 through waiver wire

Sep 1, 2021 at 9:50 AM--

After cutting the converted receiver yesterday, the San Francisco 49ers are re-signing tight end Jordan Matthews to their practice squad. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported the news.

Unfortunately, the 49ers lost three players to the waiver wire who the team reportedly hoped to sign to the practice squad. They are wide receiver Nsimba Webster, signed by the Chicago Bears, linebacker Justin Hilliard, signed by the New York Giants, and offensive lineman Dakoda Shepley, signed by the Seattle Seahawks. All three were claimed off of waivers.

Tight end MyCole Pruitt, who went unclaimed, has opted to return to the Tennessee Titans. He is signing to be on their practice squad.

Meanwhile, the 49ers didn't claim any players off waivers.

Should the 49ers Play Jimmy Garoppolo Through an Injury?

By Chris Beno
Jan 6

If you're like me, you're ready for the quarterback drama to stop. Not even an injury to Jimmy Garoppolo's throwing hand, which requires surgery this off-season is putting a stop to the chatter. If the 49ers still had backups like CJ Beathard or Nick Mullens, maybe a less than 100% Jimmy Garoppolo would be the better choice going in to a must-win game. But that's not the case. Rookie quarterback Trey Lance showed enough in the second half last week against Houston to instill confidence in him going forward. Here you have orthopedic surgeon Dr. Nirav Pandya talking about Garoppolo's injury on 95.7 The

The San Francisco 49ers are heading back to the playoffs for the first time since their 2019 Super Bowl run after a thrilling Week 18 overtime victory against the NFC West champion Los Angeles Rams. The 49ers were a 13-3 powerhouse in 2019, earning the #1 seed and a first-round bye, but this 2021 version, a 10-game winner and the 6th seed, may actually be better positioned to win it all than the 2019 squad. Let's compare the offensive position groups from each season to see who has the edge. Quarterback 2019 Jimmy Garoppolo 16 games, 329/476 69.1%, 3978 yds, 27 TDs and 13 INTs, 2.7 INT% Nick Mullens 2021 Jimmy Garoppolo 15 games,

49ers and Trey Lance Have Some Work to Do

By Chris Beno
Jan 4

Rookie quarterback Trey Lance got his second career start Sunday against the Houston Texans and came away with a convincing win. Lance was selected third overall in the 2021 NFL draft and is the heir to the throne as the future leader of the San Francisco 49ers. Sunday's matchup started a little rocky for the 49ers. It seemed there was a slight disconnect between Lance and head coach Kyle Shanahan early on. Kyle Shanahan told the CBS commentators that he's still learning how to call plays for Trey Lance and that it's going to be a process.Pretty clear that he didn't want to deal with that process in
