Injury updates: Trent Williams limps away from practice but 49ers aren’t ‘overly concerned’

Aug 16, 2021 at 1:25 PM--

San Francisco 49ers veteran tackle Trent Williams left Monday's practice with what appeared to be a right knee issue. The veteran offensive lineman limped off the field early during the session.

"I didn't see it. They said he just clipped his hip or knee or something, and we got him out," head coach Kyle Shanahan said after practice. "He didn't seem overly concerned, but we've got to look at it when we get inside."

Williams, 33, is an eight-time Pro Bowl selection and is entering his second year with San Francisco after the team traded for him last offseason. Williams signed a six-year, $138.06 million contract extension with the 49ers on March 23.

Shanahan also provided injury updates on two other players.

"Javon (Kinlaw) hurt his shoulder last week," Shanahan said. "He'll be week-to-week. I doubt he'll be out there this week. It wasn't a setback. It was a new thing—his shoulder. ... Shon Coleman hurt his knee in the game. He's day-to-day."

Shanahan added that wide receiver Austin Watkins Jr. is headed to injured reserve with a fractured foot, which was expected. The coach was also asked if wide receiver Jalen Hurd suffered a setback.

"I think you guys know the deal with him," Shanahan responded. "He goes out, does individual. We try to look into his knee. I know that he didn't finish today, which means his knee was bothering him. Hopefully, he'll have a bigger day tomorrow, and hopefully, he'll get more [with] the practice[s] with the Chargers."

Could rookie Trey Lance's first NFL start be on the horizon? San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters before today's practice and provided an update on starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. The veteran passer will not practice today during the team's first of three practices this week. The 49ers coach added that Garoppolo has not been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals, though. "It's better today, which is good news," Shanahan said. "Not enough, though, to let him go [in practice], but also not enough to rule him out. The doctors still say [to] give him another day. He's got a chance [to play on Sunday], so we're still holding out for that." Added Shanahan: "We're just waiting for the swelling to go

Today, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters via a conference call. His team is coming off a 28-21 loss to the Seattle Seahawks and fell to 2-2 on the season. Shanahan provided several injury updates from the game. The most discussed injury was to quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who could not start the second half, giving way to rookie Trey Lance. Shanahan said Garoppolo suffered a calf contusion and will be re-evaluated on Wednesday. However, the coach believes there is still a chance that Garoppolo will be available for this weekend's game against the Arizona Cardinals. RELATED: Shanahan says

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 5 contest against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Today's practice report looked very much like what head coach Kyle Shanahan previewed beforehand. There was no Jimmy Garoppolo, as the quarterback continues to recover from a calf injury. "I mean, it could go up to game time," Garoppolo said before practice about Sunday's game status. "We've done it before up to game time. And it's really just about getting the mental reps while I can out there today, see where I'm at tomorrow and everything." There was no Trent Williams, who, like Garoppolo, was injured this past weekend against the Seattle Seahawks. San Francisco continues to be cautious

49ers-Cardinals Injury Report: Jimmy Garoppolo, George Kittle don't practice; Trent Williams returns

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 5 contest against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Things are starting to trend towards rookie quarterback Trey Lance making his first NFL start. Jimmy Garoppolo missed his second consecutive practice after suffering a calf injury during Week 4. That makes it unlikely the veteran starter will be healthy enough to lead the offense against the Cardinals. Tight end George Kittle also missed his second consecutive practice. He is dealing with the same calf injury that sidelined him for most of last week. However, he still played this past weekend against the Seattle Seahawks. If Lance does start, he will probably have left tackle Trent Williams helping keep
