49ers TE George Kittle owns fourth-best odds to win Offensive Player of the Year

Jun 21, 2021 at 3:51 PM--

This was a little bit of a shocker. San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle owns the fourth-best odds to be named Offensive Player of the Year, per DraftKings Sportsbook (h/t to Jose Luis Sanchez III of SI).

Die-hard fans are well aware of the All-Pro tight end's talent level. He is an exceptional pass catcher and a punishing force on the field with the football in his hands. Kittle is also a menacing pass and run blocker, making him one of the better all-around tight ends in the league, if not the best.

Oddsmakers certainly feel Kittle could be in for a big season. He has the best odds among tight ends, with Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs being the next tight end on the list, rounding out the top 10.

Only running back Derrick Henry, quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and running back Christian McCaffrey own better odds than Kittle. Henry won the award last season after finishing the regular season with 2,027 yards and 17 rushing touchdowns.

Below are the top 10 players with the best odds to earn Offensive Player of the Year.

  1. Derrick Henry +600
  2. Patrick Mahomes +700
  3. Christian McCaffrey +800
  4. George Kittle +1200
  5. Dalvin Cook +1400
  6. Josh Allen +1600
  7. Saquon Barkley +1600
  8. Nick Chubb +1600
  9. Alvin Kamara +1600
  10. Travis Kelce +1600

Kittle is coming off a season that saw the tight end miss eight games due to injuries. However, he still managed to haul in 48 passes for 634 yards in his limited playing time. That followed up back-to-back seasons of over 1,000 yards receiving and 85-or-more receptions.

With wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk contributing in the passing game, it's not tough to imagine Kittle having an outstanding season, assuming everyone can stay healthy.

San Francisco made Kittle a fifth-round draft pick out of Iowa in 2017. He is preparing to enter his fifth NFL season.

'I hope Trey is going after Jimmy's job': 49ers' George Kittle says Garoppolo thrives on competition

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle spoke with Cam Inman of Bay Area News Group this week. In what was probably some prep-work for the likely-to-be top discussion topic once training camp kicks off next week, the All-Pro player was asked about the upcoming training camp quarterback battle ... which may or may not be an actual battle. Players may be tired of discussing Jimmy Garoppolo's job. It has been a big storyline the past two offseasons. Last year, the focus was around the 49ers possibly replacing their quarterback, who had just helped guide the team to a Super Bowl, with future Hall of Famer Tom

49ers TE George Kittle expects QB Jimmy Garoppolo to 'come out firing' in training camp

Given what happened over the first half of 2021 and how he responded to it during spring practices, it would come as no surprise if 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo winds up making a major statement with his play during the upcoming preseason. The 49ers made it clear in April that Garoppolo no longer had a hold on the starting quarterback job over a long-term basis when they selected rookie Trey Lance in the 2021 NFL Draft. But Garoppolo responded to that decision with a sharp performance during team workouts in May and June, and it's very possible he carries that over into the next few weeks as the 49ers proceed through training camp and the preseason

49ers' George Kittle and Trent Williams: This is Jimmy Garoppolo's team

The 49ers' pair of offensive stars were adamant Garoppolo remains the Niners' leader and starting quarterback. The duo also praised rookie QB Trey Lance but admitted the first-round pick's "hype man" game is a work in progress. San Francisco 49ers star tight end George Kittle and stud left tackle Trent Williams didn't entertain the concept of a quarterback competition during an interview with NFL Network this afternoon. In the midst of Friday's practice, the stars' answers to questions about Jimmy Garoppolo and first-round-rookie QB Trey Lance left little to the imagination. The two All-Pros went beyond echoing 49ers head coach
