Watch: Trey Lance continues his preparation for 49ers training camp

Jun 18, 2021 at 9:10 AM--

The videos keep coming. San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback Trey Lance has been working hard this offseason in preparation for training camp at the end of next month. The team concluded its offseason program last week, and now, it's up to each player to work on his own, stay in shape, and hone his skills before reconvening in Santa Clara on July 27.

Earlier this week, video surfaced of Lance working with teammate Mohamed Sanu. Then there was more video of Lance throwing to others while still working with Top Shelf Performance.

The latest video comes courtesy of quarterback coach Sean McEvoy. It was shared by Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area.

It sounds like Lance had a good offseason program. While Kyle Shanahan expects Jimmy Garoppolo to be the starting quarterback when Week 1 arrives, the head coach isn't closing the door on any possibilities. That could all depend on what happens in training camp.

San Francisco is playing Garoppolo a lot of money, though, assuming that he will be the starter and Lance will use his extra time as the backup to continue learning the offense.

"I definitely see it as Jimmy's the starter," Shanahan recently told Tim Kawakami of The Athletic. "But if Trey's ready to compete, I have no problem with it. I don't sit there and say, 'Hey, we're not playing a rookie quarterback. We have to rest him the first year.' I don't really make any decisions like that until I actually have an opinion on it. That'll take to how I see him in camp. If he comes in and he's playing at a high level and we think he gives us the best chance to win, we wouldn't hesitate to do that."

The San Francisco 49ers concluded their offseason program by ending their mandatory minicamp a day early last week. Wednesday was the final practice. The team held a family day on Thursday, hosting players, coaches, and staff for food and fun. The 49ers moved up the minicamp by a week. They could have held the remainder of organized team activities (OTAs) this week but opted to cancel the remaining practices, allowing players an extended break before reconvening in late July for training camp. The rookies were already expected to remain in Santa Clara this week for some extra work. They won't be the only ones, though. According to NBC

49ers and Trey Lance: There's a storm brewing in The Bay

Second-year San Francisco 49ers QB Trey Lance is mentally and physically preparing for war. During organized team activities (OTAs) and mini-camp, we heard from Lance, his coaches, and most importantly, his teammates. The commonality in what they shared about the young quarterback was his confidence and leadership. How does a young kid who didn't see much playing time during his rookie season prepare for year two? It's simply his confidence. Confidence isn't something you develop overnight. Instead, it's something that evolves through adversity. Lance received a Division I scholarship to the University of Minnesota to play linebacker. However, he wanted to play quarterback, so he took his talents to North Dakota State, where he red-shirted his freshman season

2nd-year QB Rankings: NFL insiders share differing evaluations of 49ers' Trey Lance

You can tell it's the dead part of the NFL offseason when random rankings start popping up across the sports world. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler went to NFL execs, scouts, and coaches, though, asking which second-year quarterback is poised for a big season in 2022. Those NFL insiders ranked the sophomore passers, which Fowler then compiled into his own ranking based on 2022 expectations. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance came in at No. 5, behind Trevor Lawrence, Mac Jones, Zach Wilson, and Justin Fields. Not so coincidentally, each of those quarterbacks has more starts under their belts than Lance, who started two games in 2021. Lawrence and Jones started 17 games, Wilson started 13, and Fields started 10. The only second-year quarterback listed below Lance is

The positive reports surrounding the No. 3 overall pick in last year's NFL Draft keep pouring out from Santa Clara. There was a lot of chatter about the San Francisco 49ers having doubts about second-year quarterback Trey Lance as he prepares to become the team's full-time starter. That chatter lessened once the offseason program kicked off, and reporters got closer looks at the quarterback's progress. A new report from NBC Sports Bay Area states that Lance's throws this offseason look much improved compared to last season. "Sources close to the quarterback have shared with NBC Sports Bay Area that now, with a fully recovered
