Watch: Trey Lance continues his preparation for 49ers training camp

Jun 18, 2021 at 9:10 AM--

The videos keep coming. San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback Trey Lance has been working hard this offseason in preparation for training camp at the end of next month. The team concluded its offseason program last week, and now, it's up to each player to work on his own, stay in shape, and hone his skills before reconvening in Santa Clara on July 27.

Earlier this week, video surfaced of Lance working with teammate Mohamed Sanu. Then there was more video of Lance throwing to others while still working with Top Shelf Performance.

The latest video comes courtesy of quarterback coach Sean McEvoy. It was shared by Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area.

It sounds like Lance had a good offseason program. While Kyle Shanahan expects Jimmy Garoppolo to be the starting quarterback when Week 1 arrives, the head coach isn't closing the door on any possibilities. That could all depend on what happens in training camp.

San Francisco is playing Garoppolo a lot of money, though, assuming that he will be the starter and Lance will use his extra time as the backup to continue learning the offense.

"I definitely see it as Jimmy's the starter," Shanahan recently told Tim Kawakami of The Athletic. "But if Trey's ready to compete, I have no problem with it. I don't sit there and say, 'Hey, we're not playing a rookie quarterback. We have to rest him the first year.' I don't really make any decisions like that until I actually have an opinion on it. That'll take to how I see him in camp. If he comes in and he's playing at a high level and we think he gives us the best chance to win, we wouldn't hesitate to do that."

Jimmy Garoppolo enters training camp as the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. However, the team made a move for the future this offseason with the selection of Trey Lance, indicating that the rookie, not Garoppolo, is the quarterback of the future. The situation has changed significantly since the 49ers signed Garoppolo to a mega-deal following the 2017 season. Still, for now, the job is Garoppolo's. And from the sound of reports coming out of Santa Clara this offseason and even today, as the 49ers held their first practice of training camp, Garoppolo has performed well and won't relinquish his job without a fight. Garoppolo stepped up to the podium after practice and was asked about his relationship with Lance. The two were seen

Watch 49ers rookie Trey Lance fire up the crowd before practice

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan regretted not having a rookie player fire up the crowd during the first training camp practice this week. The team has tasked a rookie with doing so in previous years. Obviously, not last year, as no fans were in the stands for practices. "We usually do a rookie hype machine, and I feel like I didn't see it out there today," Shanahan told reporters yesterday. "So I was kind of disappointed with that. I'll get that corrected later today, but it was definitely different (seeing fans again). And I'm so pumped to see it in the stadium." Shanahan did get it corrected. Rookie quarterback Trey Lance, the 49ers' first-round pick, was the one out there getting fans fired up before today's practice — the
