Watch: Jimmy Garoppolo, Trey Lance highlighted in videos from 49ers OTAs

Jun 2, 2021 at 1:13 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers are in the second week of organized team activities. Today's practice was the second of three that are open to the media. That has resulted in some videos from the session being posted to social media.

First, some breaking kicker news. Robbie Gould has indeed reported to work. He was among those missing during last week's open practice.

Of course, most eyes will be on the quarterbacks, headlined by veteran Jimmy Garoppolo and rookie Trey Lance. Below are some additional videos from practice.

Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area and Matt Barrows of The Athletic provided injury updates from the practice.

49ers more excited about Trey Lance now than when they drafted him, says John Lynch

By David Bonilla
Jan 14

Trey Lance has primarily spent his first NFL season as a student, learning the game. He's had two starts in place of an injured Jimmy Garoppolo but has spent most game days on the sideline as an observer. San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch has benefited from watching Lance in practices all season and witnessing his development. On Friday morning, Lynch joined 95.7 The Game and was asked how he would evaluate the rookie's first season. "I think it's been awesome," Lynch responded. "And a lot of people, I'm sure, are like, 'Man, this guy's crazy. What do you mean? He hasn't played that much.' But we had a plan for Trey, and I think the plan was to take it week by week. And we just wanted to see constant growth and development. "The thing

Rapoport: 49ers remain committed to Trey Lance in 2022

Sunday could be quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo's final game in red and gold. Of course, the San Francisco 49ers hope Garoppolo keeps playing beyond this weekend, but not necessarily beyond the playoffs. That's because most believe the team wants to transition to its No. 3 overall pick, Trey Lance, for 2022. "My understanding is the 49ers are still committed to first-round pick Trey Lance as their starter moving forward, which means they're expected to explore trade options for Garoppolo," Ian Rapoport said on NFL Network. "And for his part, he really seems to be soaking it in and savoring this moment. Don't take my word for it. Garoppolo actually told [The] MMQB, earlier in the week, that he thought before the last game, 'This could be

49ers-Packers: Kyle Shanahan wants Trey Lance to 'let it rip' while imitating Aaron Rodgers in practice

By David Bonilla

Trey Lance has a tough task this week. No, he is not expecting to start Saturday's playoff game against the Green Bay Packers. As part of the practice squad, the San Francisco 49ers rookie has to mimic future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the defense in practice. Lance's development has benefited from imitating opposing quarterbacks all season. Sometimes that is a versatile quarterback like Kyler Murray or Justin Fields. Other times, it is a more stationary passer, like Kirk Cousins. Lance studying Rodgers this week can only make him a better quarterback. "Aaron does a real good job of not making bad decisions and not turning the ball over," head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters before Tuesday's practice. "But he also makes all the

Schefter: 'Strong lean' Jimmy Garoppolo will start for 49ers vs. Rams

By David Bonilla

This latest report probably won't surprise anyone, given how Saturday's roster moves played out for the San Francisco 49ers. The team didn't activate Nate Sudfeld from the practice squad, as it did before Week 17, to back up rookie quarterback Trey Lance. That suggested that the Niners are confident that Jimmy Garoppolo will be suited up for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Rams and likely serve as the team's starter. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that there is a "strong lean" that Garoppolo will indeed start against the Rams. The veteran quarterback suffered a torn ligament and chipped bone in his right thumb during the 49ers' Week 16 loss to the Tennessee Titans. San Francisco listed him as "questionable" for the Week 18 regular-season finale. Garoppolo was
