According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the San Francisco 49ers were among the teams to express interest in Giovani Bernard after his release by the Cincinnati Bengals on April 1. The veteran running back is reportedly signing a one-year deal with the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
RB Gio Bernard had early interest from the Jaguars and 49ers but held out for Bucs, who came through with a one-year deal, as @TomPelissero said. Tampa now has impressive backfield with Bernard, Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones.
Cincinnati made Bernard a second-round selection out of North Carolina in 2013. He carried the football 124 times for 416 yards with three rushing touchdowns while adding 47 receptions for 355 yards with three receiving touchdowns through 16 games in 2020.
Bernard, 29, has 3,697 rushing yards on 921 attempts with 22 rushing touchdowns through his eight NFL seasons.
San Francisco currently has Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson, and JaMycal Hasty among its running backs under contract.
