April Fools: George Kittle tries to prank 49ers fans with trade news

Apr 1, 2021 at 12:27 PM--

Trust nothing.

No, I am not talking about the pre-draft chatter that the San Francisco 49ers are locked in on Alabama quarterback Mac Jones with the No. 3 overall pick. Although, I tend not to trust pre-draft chatter either. I am talking about April Fools' Day.

Sorry, George Kittle. No one is falling for this one.

The 49ers' All-Pro tight end tweeted out the following, hoping to fool some gullible fans by suggesting that he had been traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He even included a mock-up of himself in his new uniform.

The Jaguars even responded.

Kittle, 27, did get some good news today, though. No foolin'. The tight end saw all of his $11.45 million base salary for 2022 become fully guaranteed. Before today, only about $6.4 million of next year's base salary was guaranteed.

The 49ers showed Kittle how important he is to the team's future by signing the tight end to a five-year, $75 million contract extension last August. While head coach Kyle Shanahan joked on Monday that general manager John Lynch might even consider trading him if the price was right, it is unlikely the team is eagerly seeking to unload its offensive cornerstone.

Kittle appeared in eight games last season, catching 48 passes for 634 yards with two touchdowns. That followed two consecutive seasons of recording over 1,000 yards receiving.

George Kittle is confident that the San Francisco 49ers will rebound from last season's injury-plagued six-win campaign. It wasn't long ago that the team was in the Super Bowl, and much of that roster remains intact. Most feel that the Niners' 2019 season was an aberration and that a return to the playoffs is in store for this year's squad. Kittle joined Good Morning Football today and shared why the media should not overlook the 2021 49ers. "I don't know if you guys saw this, but Nick Bosa is coming back, and we re-signed Trent Williams," Kittle explained. "So those two guys are pretty good at football, from what I remember. They're pretty decent. And on the opposite side of Nick Bosa, you've got Dee Ford, you've got Arik Armstead." Bosa is

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle joined Michael Silver and his daughter, Natalie, on the latest Pass It Down podcast. Of course, the topic of quarterbacks came up. The Niners have Jimmy Garoppolo, who helped guide the team to a Super Bowl just over 16 months ago. But the team also planned for the future, trading up to select Trey Lance out of North Dakota State with the No. 3 overall pick. While Kittle remains loyal to his starting quarterback of the past three and a half seasons, the All-Pro tight end is impressed with his new rookie quarterback. "He's a freak athlete. It's kind of fun to watch that. It is," Kittle told the Silvers. "He's got a cannon for an arm too. That's fun to watch too. It's a different style of quarterback play, for

George Kittle 'pretty hyped' about 49ers' ability to compete in 2021

The San Francisco 49ers have their share of doubters as the team heads into the 2021 season. After all, it is coming off an injury-plagued six-win campaign. But it also wasn't that long ago that the team was fighting for a championship, and much of that roster remains intact. George Kittle sounds confident that the Niners can prove 2020, not 2019, was the outlier. The All-Pro tight end joined Michael Silver and his daughter, Natalie, on the latest Pass It Down podcast. The elder Silver has been pushing San Francisco as the team to watch in the NFC. "I believe that if everything goes well for you guys, all things being equal because every team has injuries, I think you guys are the best team, in my opinion, heading into the season," Silver told

49ers' George Kittle and Deebo Samuel among PFF's top pass-catching tandems

Anthony Treash of Pro Football Focus recently ranked the NFL's top 10 pass-catching tandems ahead of the 2021 season. For the San Francisco 49ers, you could probably make an argument for wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk to be thrown in the mix of some combination. However, he is just entering his second season and still has much to prove. Instead, Treash went with All-Pro tight end George Kittle and third-year wideout Deebo Samuel. The duo comes in at No. 10 on the list. To prove Treash correct, the duo will need to stay healthy in 2021. Both players, like much of the roster, struggled with injuries last season. Kittle missed half the season, and Samuel missed
